The devastated daughter of the Atlanta train passenger viciously slaughtered by an alleged homeless maniac in a random attack ripped local officials Monday for opening the transit system to free riders — and then failing to properly police its stations. Margaret Swan, a 66-year-old great-grandmother, had her throat slashed and then was stabbed 18 to 20 times on the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority by the knife-wielding madman in an unprovoked attack Saturday morning, cops said. Shanae Sams, Swan’s daughter, told The Post that glaring security gaps, lax policing and a temporary free-fare policy on MARTA paved the way for the heinous daylight killing. “

This is a hideous tragedy, so unnecessary. She should have been armed. A Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .380 is a small, light and very easy to shoot self defense handgun. My wife carries a .380 Sig handgun, and is very situationally aware. Situational awareness in public spaces is crucial. I urge all women to get some training and a small handgun and carry it like wearing a seat belt. It is very easy to get a concealed carry permit in Georgia. She could be alive and the vicious creep could be dead or at least crippled. Please, ladies, understand that YOU are your own first responder. When you desperately need help in seconds, police are tens of minutes away, and a handgun can be on your person. And very often showing a gun ends the confrontation without any shots fired.

Practice dry firing the pistol mentioned by other posters. Dry firing builds muscle memory and comfort holding and helps one's mind accept you have a handgun as part of your life.

#10: Yes. News photos and videos clearly show that people would rather record a horrific event rather than try to stop it. Even a few people pulling out a 380 or a 9 might deter an attacker.

I would like to think that if I were present, I would have helped. That being said, if I were not armed, had no military training, and had just read about the trial of Daniel Penny, I may have not reacted quick enough to do anything, and if I did, the best result that I could have expected is that I traded my life for the victim's life.

America’s political and cultural divisions are increasingly finding their way into the nation’s courtrooms. From bitter jury-room disputes to unusually public clashes among Supreme Court justices, the judiciary – long considered the most restrained and deliberate of America’s institutions – is beginning to reflect the same polarization reshaping much of American public life. Courts were once the federal branch of government least likely to generate headlines for hot tempers or personal attacks. Increasingly, they are starting to look like everything else. A Warning Sign From the Jury Box A recent Wall Street Journal report by Corinne Ramey offers a striking introduction to the problem.

The Trump administration has bent over backward to negotiate an end to Iran’s grand plans to develop nuclear weapons—before the June 2025 bombing, afterward, and again during the follow-up diplomacy of spring 2026. Yet Iran is unlikely ever to abandon its pursuit of the bomb voluntarily. With nuclear weapons, Tehran hopes to become the de facto hegemon of the Middle East. Only then could it effectively coerce or deter both Israel and the wealthy Arab Gulf states. And that is the charitable view, one that excludes the possibility of a messianic Shiite theocracy believing that eliminating the “one-bomb” state of Israel would forever ensure the Shiite minority permanent preeminence
