From juries to justices, America's courtrooms
are seeing a decline in civility

America’s political and cultural divisions are increasingly finding their way into the nation’s courtrooms. From bitter jury-room disputes to unusually public clashes among Supreme Court justices, the judiciary – long considered the most restrained and deliberate of America’s institutions – is beginning to reflect the same polarization reshaping much of American public life. Courts were once the federal branch of government least likely to generate headlines for hot tempers or personal attacks. Increasingly, they are starting to look like everything else. A Warning Sign From the Jury Box A recent Wall Street Journal report by Corinne Ramey offers a striking introduction to the problem.

Comments:

Courts degenerating into fast-food chicken restaurants. Culture changes everything.
No mention of Congressional decorum declining, too. We can think of a few 'usual suspects'

I have the impression that dishonest lawyers have long infected the court system. I have a memory of a video -from real life, not a TV drama- of an attorney screaming at and browbeating a witness or a defendant. This happened in the '50's or early '60's, if I recall correctly. There's a REASON that TV cameras are not allowed into courtrooms during trials. Anyone else have any such memory?

Not just the courtrooms. Pretty much everywhere. You look at someone the wrong way and they get in your face and scream.

A bill that would ban ingredients used in many of New Jersey’s pizzas, along with other food additives, is making its way through the Legislature and drawing pushback from the food industry. The measure, S3785, would prohibit the use of certain ingredients based on their classification as potential carcinogens. Among them is potassium bromate, a dough-strengthening agent used in some commercial bread and pizza doughs, though not all pizzerias rely on it. The bill also takes aim at a range of additives and food dyes, and includes restrictions on what can be served in school lunches in an effort to improve children’s health.

Then came the June 2024 debate, and that story collapsed in real time before millions of viewers. The fallout was so bad that Biden's own party forced him off the ticket. He dropped out, spent the rest of his term below the radar, and has spent his post-presidency trying to rehabilitate his image. Now, that effort has taken a new and telling turn. For many years the Soviet Union, and then Russia, financed the environmental movement in the United States. Their purpose was to suppress American production of oil and gas, and they succeeded to a considerable degree, to their own great benefit. Today, we are in the midst of another kind of race with Communist China–the race to develop superior systems of artificial intelligence. The Chinese Communist Party knows that if it wins this race, it will contribute greatly to its dreams of world domination, while if it loses, China, with its rapidly shrinking population, could be on the way to the garbage dump of history. So the stakes are enormous.
