Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has revealed she has long lived with a benign essential tremor after she launched her re-election campaign for a sixth term in the US Senate.
Collins, 73, disclosed the condition — which causes visible shaking in her hands, head and voice — publicly for the first time on Wednesday while she insisted that it has not impacted her ability to serve in office.
“I have had it for the entire time that I have served in the United States Senate,” Collins told NEWS CENTER Maine. “It has absolutely no impact on my ability to do my job or on how I feel each

I've also been mentally troubled since my first term. But it hasn't affected my ability to serve as a loyal Democrat Senator.

It's just her liberal brain that is causing problems. Why do people want to die in those black leather chairs. Retire and get a life.

I was diagnosed with this condition a few years ago. It hasn't caused me any significant problems (so far). I believe her when she says it doesn't affect her ability to work. Yes, she's a RINO, but if her keeping her seat maintains a Republican majority in the Senate, we should wish her the best.

I occasionally get a twitch in one finger or thumb. The doctor said it is a benign essential tremor. It's not Parkinson's. In my case it lasts about a week and then stops - sometimes up to a full year. I assume hers is more ongoing.

When it comes to so called essential tremor for most diagnosed people, it is a lot about essentially nothing, but noticeable when a hand shakes a little bit at times. That should not disqualify a person from being elected to the US Senate. Now having yourself tattooed with a German Nazi SS symbol is another story, as the Nazi SS was the most viral enemy of the USA in the Nazi German military, so no US citizen with any smarts has such a tattoo symbol placed over their heart by accident!

I've had two friends die from Parkinsons, and one other friend has had shakes for at least 20 years. I worried, as another one of our every Sunday dinner group got Parkinsons, which progressed over 10 years to fatal results. The other gentleman in our Sunday dinner group was diagnosed as essential tremor, not Parkinsons, thank goodness, and it has not gotten to be any more of a problem for 18 years.
So, while not much of a fan of her politics, I can say from personal observation that 'essential tremors' is not Parkinsons and doesn't progress into Parkinsons...at least in the case I am aware of.

The people of Maine keep sending this POS back to the Senate. I've met people from Maine, and generally they are nice folks. But their reluctance to ship that old broad out on a political ice flow and elect a real senator leaves me curious about their mental state.

No, Susan. It must be affecting you because Republicans elected you yet you continually throw your vote with the left wing loonies in the Senate.

I am no fan of RINO Collins's record, but this is a nothingburger. Like many others here, I have had BET for several years and control it with daily medication. I'm guessing that hers has progressed to the point that people were noticing, and she felt she had to say something.
Seriously, Senator, best wishes in trouncing your Nazi opponent!

Several members of my family, including myself and my Mother, have this condition. My Mother's tremors are the worst but she is 96. Several of my cousins have the condition and take medication. My tremor is very minor and I have not needed medication. We have all been tested many times for Parkinson's, no one has it and it will not lead to the disease. Susan Collins is not my favorite Senator but I must defend her on this, she should be very capable of handling her job. And her opponent is very frightening.
