A bill that would allow recipients of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, to buy hot rotisserie chicken is one step closer to becoming law. On Thursday, the U.S. House voted 384-35 in support of an amendment to the Farm Bill, which would modify the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to law to allow the purchase of hot rotisserie chicken for SNAP beneficiaries. U.S. Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., introduced bipartisan legislation labeled the “Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act,” in the Senate a week ago

OK. I bought one today while shopping at Meijer. Saved a small fortune and was able to add to my pantry in case things go sideways. But I did pay for everything out of my own pocket. At least a chicken makes sense as where a 2 liter Coke and a bag of Doritos doesn't.

Where is the amendment to forbid SNAP purchases of sugared soft drinks, chips, candy, etc.? Why should taxpayers pay for junk and then have to pay for Medicaid to cover all the illnesses from junk?

I am actually receiving SNAP...have had two years of cancer surgeries and treatments, with zero income, and my savings exhausted. A whole cooked chicken is verrrry cheap in comparison to frozen dinners, or a frozen/thawed chicken by itself. Right next to it in many stores are Sushi boxes, pre made salad bowls, vegetable trays which are also Verbotten under snap,(Nearly the same veggiepaltters are covered, but in another case, and simply do not have a packet of dressing in the container, free packets of dressing are by the salad bar) as are "Paper products" and cleaning supplies, laundry detergent... VERY expensive disposable diapers ARE covered, but if someone preferred to use/re-use cloth diapers they are not covered. There is always a counter full of very pricey "Heat and serve" made dishes that ARE covered.$16 dollars for a heat and serve 2 person chicken dish...or $5.00 for a whole roast chicken? STILL I am often in line at checkout behind people that have full carts, often several carts, and use multiple "Cards"to pay for it all, they always seem to get into very expensive latemodel cars/suv's upon departure, which are often parked in the firelane, music thumping...One solution would be to make SNAP cards a "Real ID" with a photo, and only the "certified" recipient can use it.

I picked up a whole chicken at Walmart the other day and put it down when I looked at the price and realized that an already cooked chicken was cheaper. Hot foods aren't allowed under SNAP. Which makes sense, except where retailers sell cooked food at a loss, hoping that you will purchase more while on site. I see this as a win win. Comparing an $8.00 rotisserie chicken to Lobster and Fois Gras makes as much sense as comparing a bicycle to a Ducati. Watermelon......... really??? And people are shocked when Republicans are called racists.

The hot rotisserie chicken that is sold in grocery stores is a cheap, easy source of some good protein. And many working poor have little time to prepare proper meals. While there are plenty of fraudsters (people with new cars and new stylish clothes shopping with government welfare money) there are genuine working poor as well who are often pressed for time working multiple jobs.

Rotisserie chicken is a loss leader. It is sold below costs to entice customers to come in and spend money. Costco is not going to sell chickens to people who come in and don’t buy other items and will likely shoplift while they are in the stores.

I can get 3-4 meals out of one Costco rotisserie chicken, so $4.99 is a bargain for me. One meal is hot chicken, one meal is chicken leftovers, then the chicken carcass is deboned for potpie, then the bones with leftover meat is used for soup or broth. I learned from a master, my mom, how to stretch a dinner ingredient into as many meals as possible. I am okay with rotisserie chicken being allowed, so long as that is the ONLY hot food allowed.

Eastman merely provided options for Trump to consider in a legal memo — some of which would have resulted in Joe Biden winning the election — and drafted and filed a brief for him in the election challenge Texas v. For decades, the mental health industry and its allies in media, government, and education have operated on a simple assumption: the more mental health awareness we spread, through campaigns, school programs, social media, and public service announcements, the better. Raise awareness, reduce stigma, encourage help-seeking, and mental health will surely improve. New evidence shows the opposite is happening. Well-intentioned awareness efforts are actively backfiring, manufacturing distress, inflating diagnoses, and turning normal human emotions into chronic “disorders.” The shocking result is that these campaigns are turning mentally fit people into self-diagnosed mentally ill patients, with symptoms effectively “contracted” from the awareness messages themselves.

Do you ever wonder why so many Blue states refuse to hand over their voter rolls to the federal government? After all, there is a federal law that requires certain measures to ensure ballot integrity, passed in the wake of the 2000 Florida debacle. It requires, among other things, that states clean their voter rolls of ineligible voters. But these states refuse to do that, and they refuse to show that they aren't breaking federal law. Of course, every sentient person knows exactly why they do both of those things: they cheat, and want to make it as hard as possible to detect the cheating, and almost impossible to audit elections
