U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) is proposing a bill that, if passed, would make the first $75,000 of a household income tax free.
If the bill -- called the Keep Your Pay Act -- passes, it would more than double the standard deduction for taxpayers.
Under Booker’s proposal, which was revealed Monday, the median American family would see their taxes cut by roughly 85%. Single filers and heads of households would also receive proportional tax relief through the Keep Your Pay Act.
In a video advocating his bill, Booker said in part: "The tax system, we all know this, is rigged. It’s rigged against working people and all full of things to help

I don't like the idea of a majority of the population contributing nothing to running the country. They will just vote for more goodies because it will never cost them anything. Frankly, even the lowest paid should pay some amount of tax.

While 75K seems high, it's not a terrible idea. If they increase the bracket creep and the SS tax base max, it further, but seemingly gently puts more of the tax burden on the wealthier. Considering min wage and barely above is about 35-40K for full time. The base costs of living are gobbling up bigger portions of those meager paychecks. Not sure what the tax-exempt level is now or when last adjusted.

You can't trust Booker because he's stupid. The way he's talking about taxing businesses, regular working people will need to have almost all their income tax free to be able to afford to buy anything. I'm all for cutting taxes, but demons of the democrat party can't be trusted. They always mean the opposite of what they say, and everything they do is destructive.

They won't tax the first $75,000, but that tax rate starting at $75,001 is going to be a doozy. Democrats don't understand how tax cuts increase tax revenue, so they are going to find an equation where they get the same money from fewer people. The burden is going to fall on the taxpayers employing the people making less than $75,000.

The top 20% already pay 90% of income taxes. Cory is an absolute idiot that has never done anything but complain, and tell us about his grievances.

Dems are working hard to make sure that 75% of the citizens pay no income taxes, and the top 5% pay 95% of the taxes.
That way....they can increase taxes without 'the voters' whining.

not a good idea to make the government indifferent to the people. There's no representation without taxation. Look at the countries where government really does not need the bottom strata of the population, to pay their salaries. They don't care if they're all dead. Wish they were. That would be Maduro's Venezuela, doesn't care if everyone leaves, wishes they'd go faster. That's Gaza, wants to use them all for publicity photos as they choke and die. That's Iran. Shoot them by the tens of thousands because regime is living on oil money anyway. Some countries in Africa. Regime is just selling off resources, who cares about the little farmers. ... Bad idea to have power in the hands of rulers who do not need their people.

More freebies for welfarers. The so-called "progressive income tax" is a grossly abusive injustice. It makes people pay a higher percentage of their income to the government, not just more money in total.
It's fundamentally unfair. If you make 1 million per year and pay $250,000 in tax, and I make 100K and pay $10,000, you are already paying more than me. I should be grateful you're willing and able to shoulder more of the tax burden and allow me to have more even though I pay less for it.
President G.W. Bush used to brag about how many people would pay no tax under his plans. Every adult v American citizen--everybody!--should pay some tax, and the rate should be the same for all. Those who earn less, pay less.
Nobody should ride for free. It teaches all the wrong lessons and raises generations of arrogant indolents.

Promises made in an election year are as good as “The check is in the mail and I will still respect you in the morning” They have been losing ground when running as progressive tax and spend Democrats so they are returning to their old strategy of pretending to be Republicans at election time then leaving their campaign promises on the Capitol Hill steps. To quote George Stephanopoulos in the Clinton years: “We kept every campaign promise we intended to keep” They most likely have loaded this bill with so many poison pills Republicans can’t swallow that they know it will not pass. They will try to run on “We voted to reduce taxes but those no-good Republicans stopped us. Best way forward, Keep the $75,000 deduction and remove all the poison so the Dems will have to vote against it.

Trump’s tax cuts in his first term also upped the level under which no income tax had to be paid. I didn’t like that since, under the concept of “skin in the game,” everyone should be affected by the federal tax. Same goes for Booker’s vote-buying proposal.

So for DECADES the Democrat party was in control of Congress and essentially made the rigged system he now wants to complain about.
Trump started the changes which means Democrats need to up the ante.
Trump and the Republicans already have made significant reductions for the average person in their income taxes.
My tax person said most are seeing significant tax refunds.
Then, once the $170 billion in tariff money is refunded it will be a HUGE stimulus to the economy.

Booker just happens to be up for reelection in November. Imagine that. He knows his phony bill will go nowhere, but he's hoping it buys him votes. Are Jersey voters wise to this guy yet? Answer: NO, they just keep voting for this fool.

Does this apply to everybody earning $75,000 or more? If so, then it includes millionaires and billionaires, and therefore Booker's Democrat opponents can say he is proposing "tax cuts for the rich."

If Booker really wanted everyone to "pay their fair share", he would be proposing a flat tax rate where everyone pays the same tax % no matter their income. Booker and Democrats never define what a fair share is. The wealthy already pay more in taxes. Also, if Booker is so concerned about New Jersey residents struggling due to high costs of living; he might want to address New Jerseys astronomical property taxes and other taxes/fees on everything. There is nothing the government doesn't get their cut from in NJ.

I'm fine with this as long as those who don't pay taxes no longer get to vote for anything. They no longer have skin in the game so they should no longer get a vote.

Such a proposal is typical Cory Booker. The one thing Booker fails to understand is what happens when the uber wealthy get sick and tired of high tax rates and finally lose interest in creating wealth and jobs for the commoners who wouldn't be paying any taxes.
