A former Trump administration official wasted millions of taxpayer dollars given to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to purchase thousands of employee vehicles that the agency cannot use to arrest illegal immigrants, according to sources. (snip) "ICE has never had marked vehicles," the first person familiar with the purchases said in a phone call. "In talking to people, they're like, 'We don't use these, we can't.'" The saga (snip) speaks to the different ways political appointees at the department have tried to approach operations versus how career law enforcement officials have historically done so.

Oh PLEASE! Just repaint them and then they're 'unmarked'. But it doesn't matter if the occupants of an unmarked vehicle are going to be in uniform. But pick up a single illegal and then they'll be marked alright - and egged or scratched or bricked......

It sounds as if Kristi Noem was too busy staging photo ops in her ICE vest to take care of business at the office. I used to be a fan of hers, but I came to the same conclusion I think Donald Trump did: if her husband can’t trust her, neither can we.

Fortunately, this was done with "wraps" which are just stick on plastic. It can most easily be done on 'new' wraps. If they have been on for years, they tend to be much harder to remove.
Heat from a hair dryer and patient pulling and picking will do it.
Then these vehicles can be used by ICE or sold. Still just stupid, but not at all 'unfixable'.

Another bash Kristi Noem day. I am not joining that group. Republicans will never learn. Democrats got another scalp, and the establishment Republicans helped them do it, because they want illegal immigrant labor with the majority of the costs borne by the taxpayer.

What #5 said. DHS defeated Trump's efforts to reform it during his first term and most of the "resistance bureaucracy" was still in place when Noem arrived. She stood up to a lot of bullying from Congress which Senator Mullins is unlikely to face.

The vehicles were reportedly "wrapped" with the now-offending identification Unwrao then and do whatever is necessary to get them in operation for the growing number of agpnts.
This is another Noem hit job by the lefty anti-Trump Examiner. Clickbait ...
From Edmunds:
Car wraps are a fairly durable and quick way to change the look of your car. With proper installation and good care, a wrap can last about five years, at which time you can switch to a new color or design or revert to the original paint job. Think of it as a temporary tattoo for your car.

ICE needed the vehicles but doesn't want them marked.

Re #6 and #7....these are just 'wraps' and easily peeled off with a hair dryer and some patience.
No need to repaint.

fa:
ICE’s top brass are quietly searching for a way to amend the remainder of a massive order of pick-up trucks and SUVs that were ordered last year and slated to be wrapped with the agency’s name, logo, and motto, as well as storing away many vehicles that have been delivered to ICE facilities across the country, the Washington Examiner has learned.
Anna just doesn't get it. Do read the article. It's a hit piece - she even mentions Lwewandowski - but the problem is only in the markings on just some of the vehicles and they were done with wraps.

A few observations, per this article:
#1) Those vehicles were NOT purchased at $90,000 each, as insinuated. They also don't come from GM with all the furniture, lights, electronics, accessories, and gun racks, inside, which would drive the price up, as those things are, "Lessee" specific, per the mission. Large fleet entities, like governments, rental companies, and vehicle lease agencies, buy them at a small fraction of "sticker" price. For example, my company vehicle, which, as a brand new 2016 Chevrolet Impala had a sticker price around $25,000, which actually cost the "Lessor" around $9,000 to purchase from GM. The way I know is because, after just 1 month driving my beautiful new "donk," a reckless driver slammed into me causing around $3,500 in damages, and because damages came to more than 1/3 the cost of the price new, it was promptly sent to the salvage auction instead of the autobody shop.
#2) It's probably not paint, but vinyl decals, which can be taken off with a heat-gun, or infrared lamp, to reveal base paint underneath.
#3) If they are then of no use to ICE then CBP, FBI, or half-dozen other Fed Agencies can take them under asset transference.
This Deputy Director needs to be temporarily assigned to Field Duty with ICE in order that he become better equipped to make better decisions regarding "capital asset" selection and acquisition.

Regarding post #4. I don’t know the back story on Noem, but the rest of that post is right on target, you would be very surprised how many wimpy congressional Republicans and outright RINOS are receiving contributions from big time employers of illegal aliens in return for covertly helping the leftist Democrats sabotage effective law enforcement efforts to arrest and deport illegal aliens.

The term "malicious compliance" was adopted soon after President Trump's second inauguration to describe actions by Biden holdovers to sabotage Trump initiatives by "implementing" them in ways that were counterproductive or objectionable. Sending ICE agents into neighborhoods to make arrests in vehicles that announced their presence in large block letters was -- like requiring ICE officers to wear masks reminiscent of the Clinton Administration's Elian Gonzalez fiasco -- an obvious example of malicious compliance. The problem here was likely DHS's middle managers (notoriously anti-Trump) whose advice was relied on in making the decision, not the hapless political appointee.
