Politicians love nothing more than spending, as our dangerously surging fiscal deficits clearly show. But rather than cut unnecessary spending, which would be the most logical thing, Democrats continue to push the dumbest non-solution for our soaring spending, deficits, and debt: tax the rich. Funny, but elected Democrats in blue states today deploy the same logic in their growing calls to “tax the rich.”
As CNBC’s Robert Frank recently noted,
“This is discrimination, pure and simple, the soft bigotry of low expectations. We should end it.”
George W. Bush did a public service when he coined that phrase in 1999 as a way to point out the racist roots of claims that minorities can’t be expected to achieve what “privileged’ whites do. But he was wrong to call this form of bigotry “soft.”
There is nothing soft about it. Saying that blacks can’t be expected to excel in school or get an ID to vote is as bad as burning a cross on their lawn. And yet, while Republicans are routinely described as racist, it’s Democrats who lay claim to this

OK, it just seemed that way. But the made-for-TV award-aganza – incredibly including, twice, America’s top military honor – was just one feature of perhaps the most spectacular event of its kind ever.
“Spectacular” in the word’s original sense, “of the nature of a spectacle or show.” As in:
The bombastic beginning: “Our nation is back. Bigger, better, richer, and stronger than ever before.”

They’re not as obnoxious as the “In This House We Believe” yard signs, nor as common, but if in the right neighborhood, it’s not hard to find “Climate Action Now” signs. The virtue signalers want the universe to know they are concerned that not enough is being done to keep Earth from baking. So who wants to tell them?
We do.

As NASA eases its Artemis II rocket back to the hangar for repairs this week – the second launchpad delay this month – it raises the question of whether this government agency should be in the manned spaceflight business at all anymore.
To say that the Artemis program – which has so far cost taxpayers more than $93 billion – has been plagued with problems is an understatement. It has been a case study in bureaucratic bumbling, one made more obvious when compared with the rapid advances achieved by private space companies such as SpaceX.

The mission has not been accomplished, but after a year, the federal workforce has fallen from more than 3 million to about 2.7 million, roughly where it was six decades ago, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

More than 20,000 illegal alien commercial truck drivers in California were about to lose their licenses, until a judge stepped in.
The Trump administration has been pressuring California to revoke the licenses of some illegal alien truck drivers after a series of news reports about truck drivers who did not understand English, causing deadly accidents.
An Alameda County Superior Court judge issued a ruling on Wednesday barring the state from canceling the licenses.
Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett (TX-30) isn’t just leading in the Texas Democrat U.S. Senate primary anymore. She’s pulling away, and she’s doing it as early voting is already underway.
The latest statewide survey, conducted Feb. 2 through Feb. 16 among likely Democrat primary voters, shows the Dallas congresswoman expanding her edge over state Rep. James Talarico. Early voting began Feb. 17 and runs through Feb. 27 ahead of the March primary, which means this shift is happening while ballots are being cast.

Former first lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the House Oversight Committee on Thursday that she had no idea about Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes. In her opening statement, which she later posted on X, Clinton said she had no idea of Epstein’s criminal activities. “I had no idea about their criminal activities. I do not recall ever encountering Mr. Epstein. I never flew on his plane or visited his island home or offices,” she said.
Speaking with reporters afterward, Clinton said she “answered every one of their questions as fully as I could,” adding that “I never met Jeffrey Epstein” and “I knew Ghislaine Maxwell casually, as an acquaintance.”
The United Nations chief condemned the U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran and called for an immediate return to negotiations “to pull the region, and our world, back from the brink.”
Secretary-General António Guterres told an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council on Saturday that everything must be done to prevent further escalation. “The alternative,” he warned, “is a potential wider conflict with grave consequences for civilians and regional stability.”

The US and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran Saturday morning in response to the regime’s refusal to dismantle its nuclear program after weeks of negotiations.
The attacks — which the Department of War called “Operation Epic Fury” — follow a massive US military buildup in the Middle East and come after President Trump repeatedly warned Tehran that it would face consequences if it didn’t make a deal with the US.

Nearly a year after a nine-person jury found Greenpeace liable for $667 million in damages in a case related to the Dakota Access Pipeline, a North Dakota judge has said the environmental organization will soon be ordered to make good on the damages.
In court papers filed Tuesday, Judge James Gion granted a motion filed by Energy Transfer, the company that owns the pipeline, and said he intends to issue the final judgment on the case soon.
