The diplomatic expansion signaled commitments by the two nations to strengthen their Arctic presence and partnerships with Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory that has become a focal point due to Trump’s assertion that U.S. control of the island is a national security priority.”
A delegation of senior Canadian officials, including Governor General Mary Simon, and foreign minister Anita Anand, travelled to Nuuk on Friday to formally open Canada’s consulate, accompanied by a Canadian Coast Guard ship.
At a flag raising ceremony, Anand said that the consulate symbolises Canada’s long-term commitment to ‘stand together with the people of Greenland and Denmark’.”

They are both in competition to see who surrenders to the Chinese Communist Party first.

Good news. I hope other of our allies join these two in recognizing that President Trump's obnoxious posturing about acquiring Greenland had at its heart the purpose of hectoring the Europeans into taking NATO's purpose seriously. I would be very happy if the Europeans took over the majority of their own defense. Trump's dream of being the first president in a century to acquire more land was dashed but in the end he may have launched an end to America's role of global policeman.

I recall France and Canada sent a person each to defend Greenland. France and Canada have lost all relevance, The left ruins everything they touch, including France, Canada, UK, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Ireland, all gone to scrap.

If it was anyone but Trump they wouldn't care.
If it was a Dem in office, they'd be cheering the same moves.

So, they're spending a little bit of money in protest. Who cares? Canada is a lightweight.

Are these consulates charged with protecting Greenland from invasion by an enemy force ? Can Denmark protect the island ? None of the above. The few thousand inhabitants would be far better off if the U.S. had a say.

Did each country send two people to brave the cold? One person to head up their consulate, actually just single-wide trailers, and a secretary to file things, and of course make coffee... /s

As number 6 said, Canada is a paper Tiger.
During the 2nd. World war they sent some brave and furious fighters, but since then like Britain, they have turned soft and been led by a sorry lot.

Had Canada and France ever care even a tiny bit about Greenland before Trump expressed an interest in it. Now they are virtue signaling their false support for Greenland with new consultants. I'm sure a French and Canadian office from countries that depend on others to defend them will help stop China or Russia from trying to take the island.

Oh, no! Not consulates! ("A toy robot!") I think they're being serious-faced, like crickets from real real close up. Crickets never smile. They're austere. So go get 'em, Marco. Sorry, but this is funny. It's hard not to grin like Davy Crockett, who was allegedly capable of grinning a raccoon right out of a tree before he made a coonskin cap out of the critter.

I guess the French can show the Greenlanders how to sew white flags and hold them over their heads, when the Chinese arrive!
