The Trump administration said Thursday that it has finalized a rule that creates a new government schedule that will make it easier for administrations to fire federal employees it views as hindering its agenda.
The rule, dubbed Schedule Policy/Career, converts a wide range of federal policy-related employees into a status similar to that of political appointees who can be fired at will.
The change is expected to impact up to 50,000 federal workers. Unions have opposed the change, arguing it politicizes the federal workforce, which previously was intended to be neutral and expertise-oriented, according to The Hill. “This is not about people’s views or ideas,"

The problem is, we've had many years and examples showing the Federal Workforce is anything but neutral and expertise oriented.

The era of neutral expertise oriented government workforce is long gone. What the Trump Admin is trying to do is depoliticize it. So they get accused of doing just the opposite. Typical.

All the govt. has to do is Delete the Job Position that person is occupying, No Position, No Job.
Then invoke a hiring freeze, that way the person removed can't be hired into another position, GONE!

The only "non political" group more political than the federal work force are the members of the teacher's unions.

The 1st ones that need firing are the ones that let all of our taxpayer funds go to Somali businesses, without once checking if the businesses were legitimate. Actually, any employee that failed to monitor any business they were responsible for and kept approving funds for, without ever checking if the businesses actually existed.

Federal employees are 'neutral and expertise-oriented'?
In my 33 years as an engineer working in a small Federal science agency, I found that:
Some were, and some were not.

Do a test run on the Post Office and see how that works out.

Years ago I wasted company money and traveled to Washington DC to meet with a Federal OSHA official. He spent the first 30 minutes talking about an employee and how to get rid of her. Then I found out he knew nothing about the industry for which he was writing regulations. He didn't want to learn anything either. They all get paid well for their "expertise."

A much needed thing. It is nearly impossible to fire government employees no matter how incompetent or unethical they might be.

Washington DC is considered a “Right to Work State” whenever a Democrat is in the White House, but becomes a “Sanctuary City” whenever a Republican resides there. /s

You mean federal employees can't be fired at will? Is their employment a right I've never heard of? It impacts only 50K employees out of a workforce of still too many, roughly two million. What's the big deal?
If you think it's bad with federal employees, take a look at your state employees. They're costing taxpayers big money even after they've retired, just like the federal folks. Most of the private sector doesn't even offer retirement plans outside of 401Ks anymore, but we all pay for the retirement plans of government workers. I know someone who retired from the state and continues to receive the highest of his salary the last three years he worked (from education, poster #4). Until he dies! Where they do that at? The best most private sector workers can hope for is salary for one year in severance.

#4. I think government employees should never be allowed to unionize.

Recently retired federal employee here. Have worked in several agencies in the same job series (government information specialist) and have seen first hand the politicization of so-called career employees. It really became pronounced when Obama first came into office. I couldn't walk past a cubicle assigned to a black employee and his/her government issued desktop computer playing infinite loops of the Obamas at their first Inauguration. But you didn't dare say a thing - racism dontcha know.
In my experience the worst agencies were the VA and the FBI and their black employees. And when Trump came into office back in 2017, even the white employees who hated Trump couldn't keep their opinions to themselves. I always took pride in that I worked diligently and impartially for whatever Administration and that my colleagues had no idea of which party I supported. It should be every federal employee subject to this new schedule.
