Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY)threatened Monday to shut down the government unless Republicans drop their efforts to secure elections and keep noncitizens from voting. (snip) [A]s Congress debates a new spending bill (snip) Senate Majority Leader John Thune suggested there could possibly be efforts to vote on the SAVE Act as a standalone bill in the Senate. While noncitizen voting is already illegal, current federal law is largely toothless. Prospective voters check a tiny square box on a federal form attesting under penalty of perjury that they are a citizen. Such an insecure system has led to thousands of noncitizens either register to vote or even vote.

Dems have DEPENDED ON illegal aliens voting for them for many years.
Schumer can't imagine losing a big chunk of their voters, merely because they aren't citizens and aren't legally in the country.

The difference between the Left and the lunatic fringe Left is evaporating. This is the biggest alarming development since the election.

Common sense will tell you that the political party that opposes the so-called SAVE Act is the political party that knows that it has benefited greatly through massive numbers of fraudulent votes case by people who are not legally qualified to vote in the USA. Claiming that large numbers of minorities who are Democrat voters would not be able to afford credible ID to vote is a bunch of crap, as those people like everybody else in the USA must frequently show credible ID when they do just about anything involving healthcare or money these days. Here people get what are called REAL ID’s in the form of State issued ID cards from the Department of Motor Vehicles daily at no cost.

Chuck, how come a photo ID was required to get into the 2024 Dem convention?
You just want to protect voter fraud that benefits your party.

So you want free and fair elections? Fugetaboutit! We can't have that since Democrats would cease to exist in local, state and federal office.
Okay, there would be a few in office, but possibly half of the total now if Voter ID is implemented in locations where it isn't now.

What further proof do we need to show us that the reason for open borders was to increase the votes for Democrat candidates. Democrats conspired to fill America with illegals to keep Democrats in power.
Democrat do not love America, they crave power. They are too stupid to see the proof right in front of them ,notably Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib that the people they let in will elect people like themselves, and when they elect enough of them they will be running the country.

The J6 Prison cells are still close to the Senate Chambers. Give Chuckie SCUMer a guided tour, with stops in every cell! That should fix the problem in the short term, them move him to a REAL PRISON!
Charges? Obstruction of an Official Proceeding!

Time to replace that treasonous dinosaur. People died for our Republic and the Constitution we are ruled by. And it clearly states that only "Citizens" have the right to vote. Not some Jihadists here to destroy our country and establish a caliphate.

ICE has already been funded for 4 years in the Big Beautiful Bill. Refusing to funding for Homeland Security will not affect ICE. It will only affect TSA, FEMA and other agencies of Homeland Security. Schumer's grandstanding makes no sense and will only do harm. If the Democrats back this, they deserve to lose big time in the midterm elections. And, 81% of voters want voter ID.

Illegals aren't voting and if Republicans try to stop them from voting he'll shut down the government. That's Schumer's story and he's sticking to it. It's time to ashcan the nonsensical "vote on whether to vote" procedure and return to the real "filibuster:" If Democrats want to embarrass themselves by speaking nonstop for days against a bill supported by over 80% of likely midterm voters, by all means give them the floor.
