Maine stops payments to embattled health
care provider facing fraud allegations

Original Article

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services moved Tuesday to halt MaineCare payments to a Portland company that serves immigrants by asserting it had improperly billed for interpreting services and seeking to claw back more than $1 million. The company, Gateway Community Services, received a notice of violation Tuesday from the department along with a notification that it was suspending payments while investigating “credible allegations of fraud.” The department’s unit reviewed 15,000 claims made to Gateway between March 2021 and December 2022 and is seeking to recoup nearly $1.1 million.

Comments:

There is much more to this story. Independent journalist Steve Robinson and his spartan staff at the Maine Wire have been reporting on this for months. Governor Janet Mills, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, Auditor Matt Dunlap and House majority leader Aaron Frey are up to their necks with Somali run Gateway Community Services. Now, they’re scurrying like cockroaches with the lights turned on.

For the record, Gateway Community Services does not provide health care services… unless translating is healthcare.

One of the allegations not in the Bangor Daily is that the head of Gateway has been funding his political campaign in Somalia. He has hired his own militia for the campaign for election to an administrative region in Somalia. He is not in the U.S.

Another article published in May states that the Janet Mills administration awarded $3.3 million in no-bid contracts to Gateway Community Services since 2022. And that Gateway Community Services leaders organized a group that helps democrats with voter turnout in migrant communities.

The rehab place offered my wife a wheelchair. We thought it was only for the two weeks she was there. Turns out it was to be purchased through medicare. Before we knew it the chair was delivered and medicare and the insurance company was being billed. $250 per month for 12 months. Medicare did not balk. The insurance company did not balk. If we had bought the same exact chair delivered to our door from Amazon it would have been $157 total, one time, not some monthly thing. $3,000 versus $157. That is what is wrong with government healthcare.

Kosovo will apply to join the European Union this week, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Tuesday, a process that is expected to take years if not decades and is dependent on its normalising relations with Serbia. Albanian-majority Kosovo declared independence from Serbia in 2008 with the backing of the West, following a 1998-1999 war in which NATO intervened to protect the territory. Kosovo is not a member of the United Nations and five EU states - Spain, Greece, Romania, Slovakia and Cyprus - refuse to recognise Kosovo's statehood.

Tens of thousands of Czechs used a national holiday Friday to rally in the capital against the pro-Western government and its support for Ukraine’s fight against the Russian invasion. The rally follows two others at Prague’s central Wenceslas Square and was smaller than the 70,000 who gathered for the same reasons on Sept. 3, according to police estimates. Held under the slogan “The Czech Republic first,” a reference to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s nationalist platform, the protest united the far right with the far left and various fringe groups. Its organizers are known for pro-Russian views and opposition to COVID-19 vaccines.

Russia launched fresh hell across Ukraine on Monday with deadly missile strikes on several cities, including the capital, Kyiv — a horrifying escalation that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky insisted was an effort to wipe his country “off the face of the Earth.” At least 81 cruise missiles were fired at eight regions by midmorning, only around half of which were shot down, according to Ukraine’s defense ministry. Explosions were reported in Lviv, Ternopil and Zhytomyr in Ukraine’s west, Dnipro and Kremenchuk in central Ukraine, Zaporizhzhia in the south and Kharkiv in the east, many hitting at rush hour.

Vladimir Vysotsky, the voting chief, showed reporters ballot boxes made of clear plastic, promising the voting process would be “just as transparent”. The stations Vysotsky visited on Thursday were, according to his estimation, 100% ready for polling. Polling station staff were seen being trained for a last minute referendum announced only on September 20. Russia did not recognize the independence of the Donetsk People's Republic before February 21, 2022. Ukraine said it would not recognize the results of the new vote.

NATO on Friday rejected Ukrainian calls to help it protect its skies from Russian missiles and warplanes, wary of being dragged into Moscow's war on its neighbour, but Europe promised more sanctions to punish Russian President Vladimir Putin. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy strongly criticised the decision, saying the alliance had given Russia the green light to continue its bombing campaign. He had earlier appealed to NATO to set up a no-fly zone over Ukraine, which Russia invaded by land, sea and air on Feb. 24.

Islam is simply incompatible with Western civilization, and that couldn’t be more evident considering the 2025 Christmas and Hanukkah season. We get it rubbed in our faces, time and time again, with one massacre after another. These aren’t just lone gunmen who go nuts. These are organized terrorism cells. Bondi Beach, a massacre allegedly committed by two Muslims (father and son), is only the latest example. San Bernardino, California was the scene of a similar massacre by two Muslims (husband and wife). Nineteen Muslims, backed up by the wealth of other Muslims, gave us 9/11. Only Islam commands its followers to “kill the infidels.”

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger's downplaying of a 2020 election blunder as a mere "clerical error" has done little to quiet a growing backlash within his own party. Far from accepting Raffensperger's explanation that Fulton County's failure to properly sign tabulation tapes "does not erase valid, legal votes," 2020 election skeptics are calling for a federal investigation into what they view as a massive coverup. One state senator called for arrests and charges of treason.
