Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio, plans to introduce legislation on Monday that would require any U.S. citizen who has dual citizenship to between the two countries, Fox News Digital has learned. It would also require that if a U.S. citizen seeks a foreign citizenship in the future, that person would give up their U.S. citizenship. Moreno, who was born in Colombia but has since renounced his Colombian citizenship, said in a statement Fox News Digital, "One of the great honors of my life was when I became an American citizen at 18, the first opportunity I could do so."

Declare birthright citizenship to be unconstitutional - which it is. That is the first priority.

This is going nowhere. SCOTUS, if it even gets that far, will toss it out like they have several times before.

I'm with #2. Birth tourism from China and illegals crossing into the US and having 5 kids despite their parents NOT being citizens is the bigger problem.
I am all for eliminating dual citizenship but there are some pretty powerful influences in this nation who treasure their dual citizenship more than they love America... so yeah, that is going nowhere fast.

This is a waste of time. It will not happen. There are far more serious things that impact us with people coming in/being here illegally that need to be the priority right now.

Changing this law is not a waste of time.
The illegal immigration must be solved by those who enforce our ewdisting laws.
These are widely seperate issues.

I admire the poster's wife - what a great role model!
I unfortunately have come across a number of people with dual citizenship who hate our country and should not have it.

Interesting. My son was adopted from Russia just before the age of 2 (now adult). He is a US citizen as well as having Russian citizenship.
About 10 years ago (prior to reaching age 16, which requires two years of military service for Russian men ages 16-45, and it ain't "be all you can be" and the GI bill), my son and my wife traveled back to Russia and his home town and orphanage with a group providing English language bible study. The Russian government considered him -- and still considers him -- a Russian citizen and he was required to obtain and maintain a Russian passport, of which obtaining is a n entertaining story in itself.
If he traveled to Russia today (as he is now in that age 16-45 group), he would be immediately conscripted into the Russian military, even if he were to renounce his Russian citizenship. And if you haven't been reading the papers, the Russian military is needing more than a few good (or live) men.

I have friends that do charity work in Mexico.
They absolutely NEED dual citizenship to do their work. Mexico demands it.
I hope we can make an accommodation for work like theirs.

I think this is in principle the right thing to do. Dual citizenship didn't become possible until relatively recently. And I do not believe the Constitution anticipated the concept that a citizen of the United States could be loyal to another sovereign. Had that been thought possible, constitutional authors would almost certainly have made dual citizens ineligible to become president, for example.
When Ted Cruz was running for president, there was a great deal of discussion about natural born versus native-born etc. Setting that aside for a minute, the main problem was you can't be the President of the United States if you're a subject in another jurisdiction. As a Canadian citizen Cruz could have been prosecuted under Canadian law for actions he undertook as the American head of state.

I don't see how one can be a citizen of more than one country. Is there a limit? Can one be a citizen of 10 or 100 countries?

I had this conversation with a friend who is a dual citizen. Pays tax to both countries. Still, I am uneasy as, if the countries were going separate ways, his status would be conflicting

Some countries grant automatic citizenship to the foreign born children of their native born citizens. Sometimes those foreign born derivative citizens, who may have been born and who grew up in the USA do not have a clue about all that. Apparently children born to native born Mexicans in the USA are considered to be Mexican citizens in accordance with Mexican law, in addition to being granted birthright US citizenship because they were born in the USA, no matter if their Mexican parents were in the USA illegally or legally at the time at the time the child was born. The above people never have to pledge allegiance to the countries of their parents birth. We are talking about many millions of people in the USA. It seems like the US Government trying to administer and enforce such a proposed law outlawing duel citizenship would in affect be stepping into a massive pile of worms.
