Democrats are seeking to put limits on private donations to foot the bill for President Donald Trump's new White House ballroom amid what they say are bribery concerns. Trump announced in October that construction had started on the ballroom — leading to the demolition of the White House’s historic East Wing — and would be privately funded at an estimated cost of $300 million. That was up from the $200 million estimate first provided in July when the project was unveiled.
But Democrats are concerned the donors — including individuals and other organizations — are footing the bill for the project because they are seeking

Hey, let's open that can of worms! Not just for this of course, but for all of congress and donations of all types. Let's also release that information to the public.

Remember, folks; whatever the democrats accuse Republicans of doing, it is only to deflect from the fact that is what they are doing themselves.

They're just butt-hurt that they didn't do it first and turn it into a grift for the DNC (or worse).
As it is, I don't see anything wrong with private donors chipping in - sure they're probably trying to curry some favor with Trump, but as long as he's promoting general policies that don't favor any one entity, it's no worse than what the Dims do...

The demosluts are once again trying to stop Trump. This is doomed to fail like all the other attempts. However, the pay to play system in D.C. has worked for decades and the demosluts are experts at that. The Biteme gang didn't even try to hide it. They were up front and center with the corruption. The cost of this ballroom is a prime example of the pay to play game. I don't care how big this ballroom is supposed to be, but three hundred million for one room? Somebody is making big bucks off of this, but it won't be Trump. It will be the contractors building it.

What a great opportunity to really screw over the Democrats by criminalizing any kind of pay for play donations over certain amount.

The Democrats accuse Trump of a quid pro quo because they remember 'Zelinsky-Biden & Son Inc.'
They threw this at the wall but it won't stick - it's privately funded and they don't like their loss of 'control'.

There is little doubt that if Trump were to somehow cure cancer that the congressional leftist Democrats would oppose that. There is no doubt that if the leftist Democrats could find a way to get the corporations and individuals who donated to build the new ballroom at the White House to donate the same amounts of money to them, that we would never hear a peep about that or what the leftist Democrats were going to do for those donors in response. The leftist Democrats are all talk on this issue, because in the unlikely event they get such legislation through Congress no doubt Trump would veto it.

Typical of democrats. They want this to go to bid so their contractors can get the jobs and give them kickbacks while the project costs three to ten times more money.

I've been wondering is there a way for people to make small donations to the Big Beautiful Ballroom?
Perhaps we could make a contribution as 'The Friends of Lucianne.'

FTA: "But Democrats are concerned the donors — including individuals and other organizations — are footing the bill for the project because they are seeking something in return from the Trump administration, and recently introduced legislation to try to curb it."
That's one way of looking at it. President Trump intends to add a proper ballroom to the White House. Something more fitting than a bunch of tents on the lawn, along with portapotties. He's adding something the American people can be proud of, doing it with contributions from wealthy donors.
Never forget that those Dems opposed to upgrading the White House with a ballroom, and funding it with $300 million in donations, had no concerns at all about the cost to middle America of leaving our borders open for four long years. What did Biden and the Democrats get for inviting millions of unvetted "new Americans" into our country? They saddled our middle class with BILLIONS in debt to alleviate imported poverty for illegal aliens. Democrats' beneficiaries have no gratitude toward the American people, and Dem politicians are still scolding us for objecting to what they did to our nation. Instead of worrying about what $300 million from donors will buy, it might be wise to consider what the billions of dollars Democrats saddled Americans with got for THEM. They are shameless.

And yet they didn't make a peep with hundreds of millions flowing into the Clinton Corruption Foundation and Slush Fund from FOREIGN donors.
This money is spent on the people's house....right there. No bribery, it's actually civic mindedness. This is actually a GOOD thing.
But, Dems are frightened by and hate all good things.

The only thing in plane sight is the Democrat’s rabid hatred of President Trump. They will claim any.thing he does is bad just to obstruct anything he does. Even Barack Obama complained that anytime the United States needed to entertain a large group of dignitaries it had to be held in a tent on the lawn. As to the “historic” East Wing, it looked like the after thought addition it was, added in 1902 and enlarged in 1942 to provide planning space during World War II. Providing a respectable facility, instead of a tent, for entertaining international gatherings is long overdue for a major nation like the United States.

"White House’s historic East Wing" - What's "historic" about the East Wing? I live in a house built around 1910. Is "historic?"

Let them squawk. Just carefully take down the new ballroom at the end of Trump’s term and move it to Mar-a-Lago. Then put up a tent again at the WH.

At least when conservatives donate to Repubs, money is usually used for something. When dems donate, it goes into deep pockets. I do remember Jackie Kennedy took donations for something and maybe Mrs. Johnson asked for it for new china, or was that Mrs. Kennedy. It doesn't usually happen enough to pay attention to. Hils used her donations to buy condoms for the Christmas trees in our White House.

Well, that is a total waste of the taxpayer's money, since it's DOA and will never see the light of day in the House or Senate.
But, hey, that is what the Democrats do best -- wasting taxpayer money!!!!

The funds are given to the Ballroom Fund/US Government, not Donald Trump. Any bill that the Democrat's propose for the ballroom should also be applied to political campaign donations for members of Congress. Especially the no conversion of funds for personal use part. If its good for Trump its good for Congress.

There's nothing "historic" about the West Wing and the building, which was constructed to conceal the bomb shelter beneath, wasn't demolished. The Democrats are once again projecting because bribery and rent-seeking is SOP for them.

Bribery is the giving of something so that the receiver will do something for you. Exactly what will Donald Trump receive from the donations to rebuild the West Wing?
