The U.S. Postal Service announced that it will increase prices for most shipping services beginning January 18, 2026, pending regulatory approval, as the self-funded agency works to narrow persistent financial losses. The changes, already approved by the USPS Board of Governors, would raise Priority Mail rates by about 6.6%, Priority Mail Express by 5.1%, USPS Ground Advantage by 7.8%, and Parcel Select by 6%. Prices for mailing services, including the cost of a First-Class stamp, will remain unchanged in January. The move follows the release of fiscal 2025 results showing a $9 billion net loss, slightly better than the $9.5 billion the prior year. Operating revenue rose 1.2% to $80.5 billion,

Waste all your money, plead poverty - and raise taxes! Typical government agency. It’s way past time to privatize tye U.S. Postal Service.

#1 is correct. Time to privatize the USPS. This quasi government agency has benefits that far exceed any other government agency.

I was told by a USPS employee that when I send something down the street, it first goes to the Orlando central post office and returned to a neighborhood PO for delivery. 150 miles round trip to be sorted instead of being done locally. I imagine this happens millions of times everywhere.

The USPS was created from the former Department of the Post Office in 1971, reportedly to create "a self-sustaining government-owned corporation expected to generate enough revenue to cover its cost." Arguably removing the postal service from normal congressional oversight made them less accountable to the public and has primarily benefitted USPS management and employees.

The PO only delivers junk mail and 1st class letters, because they don't allow anyone else to deliver them. The PO is so bad most people use email, or one of the private delivery services. Walmart and Amazon now deliver it themselves.

The suicide continues... The USPS recently mailed flyers to everyone in the country with a street address to be sure and use them for Christmas correspondence, thus incurring further debt. I once had that experience #4, mailing a check to a place that was two blocks away from the Post Office. It took three days. I called the postmaster and told him he could have folded it into a paper airplane and tossed it over. He was not amused.

i wonder how much the Post Office loses on all the packages of stuff from China. I see stuff advertised for sale- the item manufactured, packed, and shipped halfway around the world for less total cost than it would cost me to mail the identical package anywhere here in the US.

IME, the USPS has shifted from a majority white employee operation to a majority black employee operation over the last 20 years. The majority of USPS folks are clearly DEI hires, and incompetent and protected from firing for their incompetence by the union. Get rid of the union and put in place performance standards. But....sigh.....it will never happen.

Sell it all to UPS or FEDEX. The government gets the money and the taxpayers save 900 billion a year. I order from Amazon and get it in 2-3 days, but I don't remember getting a package from USPS. Maybe Amazon still uses it for some items.

Perfect metaphor for government run programs. USPS had a monopoly and lost money every year long before FedEx or UPS really got into the game. g Government programs always cost more and deliver less. Overpaid, overprotected, pampered essentially part time workers. Just heard Ric Grennell saying he cut the fundraising team at the Kennedy center from 94 to 16. Those 16 generated more money in 9 months than the 94 the year before.

Dilworth United Methodist Church overflowed Monday night as Siembra N.C. hosted an “ICE and Border Patrol Watch” session, WBTV reported. Trainers walked attendees through step-by-step exercises on how to track federal agents, film detainment encounters, and alert neighborhoods when immigration officers appear in the area. Volunteers acted out mock arrest scenarios while trainees practiced recording the encounters, shouting scripted warnings, and instructing “detainees” on what to say when approached by law enforcement.

A liberal columnist complained Thursday about hearing the American national anthem in Washington, D.C., the nation’s capital. Jamie Stiehm, who has contributed to several corporate media outlets, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, wrote for The Capital Times on Thursday that though the “Star-Spangled Banner” might be appropriate for “ballparks and stadiums,” it is “dissonant” to play before a classical music concert in today’s political climate. Stiehm said that classical music transcends international boundaries, but the national anthem pulls the arts back into the orbit of President Donald Trump’s influence. It ain’t so much the things we don’t know that — Mark Twain (attributed) What’s the one thing everyone knows about capitalism? Why, that it started out as a mean, nasty tool of greedy industrialists, of course. “The Industrial Revolution,” we all learned, was a terrible Moloch that devoured children, put profits before people, and, though it made great fortunes (or, perhaps, partly because it made great fortunes), was a wicked development. The Industrial Revolution, we’ve all been taught, was the original sin of capitalism, necessary, perhaps, to prime the engine of economic progress, but lamentable nevertheless.
