If there’s any good that’s come from the government shutdown, it’s exposing all the fraud being committed to exploit the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
To be sure, there are millions of needy Americans who were hurting from being deprived of SNAP as they tried to support children and keep their families from going hungry. This is not about them. This is about the other people — the individuals who dip into this program unjustly at the expense of the taxpayer.
Just the News reported that Department of Agriculture Deputy Secretary Steven Vaden has indicated his agency is engaging in data collection relating to SNAP across several states

3 guesses as to what these recipients look like and the first 2 don't count. I venture to say highly organized fraud with kickbacks galore.

Even if you have illegally accumulated benefits from 6 states, how do you amass $50,000 accrued?
How much is the normal monthly payment on the EBT card?
All these programs need to have cross-checks, particularly between states and counties, to protect the taxpayers.

I was visiting my daughter at University of Boulder for graduation. She was walking around filling her cart with party food. A lot of chips. I asked what she was doing. She said she had money on her card to spend. Turns out it was an EBT card. I asked how she got it. She said the university runs the financials on students. They get EBT automatically. Most students have them!

These people who are doing this must be imprisoned. NOT just cut off their benefits. PUT IN PRISON.

#3: My son graduated from the University of Colorado, in Boulder. I’m shocked about what you found out - but I’m not surprised…
This whole program needs to be eliminated.

This is nothing new. After Katrina 20 years ago, thousands of people were discovered collecting SNAP benefits in both Louisiana and Texas, and some in California on top of that. The states did nothing, pretending that the fraud involved was under their arbitrary threshold.
I know elderly people who have a real need. They barely get enough SNAP to buy a gallon of milk every week. The Dept of Ag needs to remind recipients that the S stands for supplemental, not a way of life.

RE #7:
I am 100% disabled thanks to a bad fall. I applied for SNAP and they offered me a paltry $23/month. It wasn't worth all of the paperwork and hassle to accept it so I let it lapse. I think that was their plan all along.

Can you imagine the fraud in the aca? And the dems just wanted trillions thrown at it and call it a day. EVERY PROGRAM needs to be reviewed and applicants need to reapply. I have to decide if I can afford steaks for a special occasion and these jockos are eating high on the hog. This is why they can afford cars, and nails, and hair extensions, and expensive clothes, and drugs and booze and on and on. This needs to stop. Give the money found to seniors under a certain income. Or disabled, or veterans in need etc. Too many LaQuidas and their brood.

A friend of mine, who is now in a nursing home, was buying steak and lobster with her SNAP card.
I was working 60 hours a week or more and I didn't buy such luxuries, I had a mortgage, heat, electricity, etc to pay for.
Plus, she was living free at a 55÷ older home.

Our government is so big and bloated that no one knows where the money is going, making it easy to steal from the taxpayers. The checks and balances are in place to ensure you pay your taxes, but if you want to steal, not so much.

Regarding the SNAP fraudsters: Perp walk these felons. Publish the mugshots and send them to prison.

Once someone discovers the weak spot in the system, the news spreads fast and everyone is doing it.
In our Katrina shelter one woman had two social security numbers and got two FEMA packets in the mail. The way I caught it was a very unusual first name. When she was adopted by a step-father as a child they got a new social with her new last name.

I presume if someone is 100% disabled then you are receiving Social Security Disability. And of course, SS started out as a retirement program and then morphed into disability. Federal programs start out small or temporary like WIC (to promote breastfeeding back in 1972) and then they just keep growing and growing....
And if I hear one more time about single mothers having to use SNAP for their children, well, these single mothers are not widows or divorcees as was the norm fifty years ago but a single woman who chose to get pregnant. If you cannot afford the child, don't get pregnant.

None of the frustrated suggestions expressed above have the remotest chance of being implemented. This inequity descends from the very putrid core of the welfare state. If they start cutting it out a lot of the rot will follow. Too many political stakeholders are involved.

Bring back DOGE. Elon Musk did a great service to our Nation with his Dept of Gov Efficiency. Thank you Elon. Go with Big Balls on this one. We are supposed to be the wealthiest country in the World, but having recently been in Europe I don’t think so. These Moochers should be working. How many are Illegal Aliens or College Students?

And the SNAP recipients kids get free meals at school.
I have seen women with ninos in tow pay for cartload(s) of groceries with a Texas Lone Star card, pay cash for cigarettes and beer and then head for the lotto machine and /or Western Union counter. One day I will hang around just to see what type of cars they drive.
