New York City mayor-elect and self-proclaimed Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani urged his followers not to purchase Starbucks products while workers are on strike. Mamdani posted the call to action on his X account to his more than one million followers, which generated swift backlash from those who opposed his pro-union stance. 'Starbucks workers across the country are on an Unfair Labor Practices strike, fighting for a fair contract,' he wrote in the post. 'While workers are on strike, I won’t be buying any Starbucks, and I’m asking you to join us. Together, we can send a powerful message: No contract

Starbucks Workers United (an affiliate of the sketchy SEIU) claims to represent 12,000 baristas (Starbucks puts the number at 9,500.) No figure is available for total baristas although they likely constitute the majority of Starbucks' 228,000 US employees so a successful boycott would clearly harm lots of workers who aren't involved in the strike.

I like the way the Zoe clown uses the word "together" when he wants people to follow his orders. Not being an American he does not know that the Loony Left prizes Starbucks above freedom, fairness and jobs. Asking them to give up their fancified coffee is like asking them to stop getting tattoos and piercing their faces with random sharp objects. Baristas are not skilled technical workers, they dump some ingredients in the top of a machine, press a button and place a cup in the round place at the bottom. A chimp could probably do that better with far less reward so Starbucks won't even have to hire AI robots.

Starbucks followed every left wing trend. I don't know whether it was sincere or they thought it would garner more customers by appearing to be woke. If the strike were to be successful, there will be fewer baristas employed. Technology is almost there to replace them anyway. On a Viking River trip we took, they had a machine that could serve most any fancy coffee at the touch of a button. Lattes, mochas etc. I can foresee a coffee shop of the future with just some tables and one employee selling the donuts and such. The rest of the employees will be smart machines.

Many Cook County homeowners are reeling from whopping property tax bills that came out late and much higher than expected. Chicago's south and west sides saw some of the biggest increases as tax bills began arriving in mailboxes the last few days. In the North Lawndale neighborhood, property tax bills went up on average 98%. In the West Garfield Park neighborhood, the average increase was more than 130% One of the main reasons for skyrocketing property tax bills for homeowners is because of what's happening downtown, where property taxes collected from commercial businesses dropped $129 million over the past year.
