No, I’m not leaving NYC because we have
a socialist mayor — and neither should you

I did not vote for Zohran Mamdani.
Call me crazy — but a socialist who, until five minutes ago, was gleefully tweeting to defund the police and who refuses to condemn the phrase “globalize the intifada” is not my ideal steward for this glittering center of progress.
On social media, there’s a relentless schadenfreude chorus of “You deserve what you vote for” from out-of-towners who don’t seem to understand that massive swathes of New Yorkers did not, in fact, vote for Mamdani.
But that doesn’t mean I’m going anywhere.

Not really a convincing reason to stay. I grew up by Newark although our roots were in the lower Eastside of the City. The town was beautiful and like Kristen our family was all there. Sunday at Grandma's and the NY Yankees.
When the State decided to bus kids from neighborhood schools many said there would be flight out of town but many were like Kristen and said to stay. The small town had 500 stolen cars taken one year but luckily we got out before it went totally down hill.

Too bad. Glad to live far away, and will stay far away from CrazyTown.

Staying could be worse than just paying more in taxes and stepping over a few more homeless migrants. In the early '90s the homicide rate in New York city reached a staggering 2,000 /year. Being a statistic could very well be in your future with Mamdani and Alvin Bragg in control.

Allah, Mamdani, Soros. Elections have consequences. Snake Plissken has refused to enter NYC. Enjoy the upcoming chaos and demise,

They all need to stay there, and those who are to the right of the communist mayor need to fight where they are. The first thing they should demand is that the communist mayor does his majoring for free. Right? Second, he should empty his bank account to pay for the, let's say free grocery stores. Or maybe he can fund the free buses. That includes parts and labor to fix said free buses and the drivers who drive those buses. The communist is already begging for money to set up his kingdom. Tell him to fund it himself. Call him out if he gets money from the Soros types. We in the red states are pushing back against leftism and don't need more people left of us coming here making our job harder. So yes, stay right there in NY. Stefanack might be a big help if you all go vote next time.

Need to make it clear to the invasive species -- this is OUR f'n town. Anyone who wants to make it something else should expect opposition every step of the way.

It's always good to be hopeful, Kirsten and I understand why you want to stay; it's been your home for many years and you have family connections there. Be hopeful if you must but make a contingency plan in the event that things go entirely off the rails. I think that might be the goal. It's never wrong to be CAUTIOUS.
Write another article next year at this time and let us know how you're doing. I'm betting your outlook will have changed by then......maybe your address as well.

It’s going to be tons easier for the young hopefuls who voted for him to pick up and leave when things don’t work out as promised. Maybe there is hope for NYC after all.

One can almost feel she is channeling her inner 1930s Germany Jew. Jews suffer grievously yet still couldn't believe that Hitler meant what he said. Denial isn't just a river running through Egypt.

It's admirable to stay and see if you can ride out a wave and hope for a better tomorrow. Most people survey the situation , make assessment and then decide what they do considering all the facts at their disposal.

FTA: Now we have another foe: a smiling socialist.
When I watched him, he looked and sounded angry, kind of like somebody flipped a switch. I look forward to learning where the money for delivering all that free stuff will come from. Some of the wealthy have already left the state. One of his supporters was speaking about raising taxes on the middle class. As if taxes on the middle class aren't high enough. That seems like a good way to speed up the exodus of Americans once they get a taste of what's in store for them from communist/socialist leaders and their supporters.

"I'm not leaving" and "I'm not going anywhere" are notorious in the annals of Famous Last Words.
Perhaps this writer has enough cash and fortitude to cling to her guns, in the delusion that all will be well, she can handle it --- why, the city has weathered 9/11 and DeBlasio. But one thing is to boast and comment from a safe perch, and another is to actually live the daily grind under REAL, raw communist rule, which no one in the US has ever done (except those of us refugees from communist countries). Go ahead and stay ~ you will surely have lots of material to write about ---- provided you're allowed to publish it.

Good. Stay there. There are already enough crazy people willing to live on the 40th floor of a tower just because it's on a FL beach.
