Burger Kings hoarding pennies and other

Burger Kings are among the many cash-heavy businesses around the US grappling with the phaseout of the penny — with one group of the fast-food joints reportedly hoarding the coins by the box since President Trump ordered the Treasury Department to stop minting them earlier this year. Businessman Gary Andrzejewski told The Wall Street Journal that the Burger Kings he operates in Baltimore have stockpiled 30 boxes of pennies so far. “I don’t think anyone has any idea of what they are doing right now,” he was quoted as saying. He said since his armored car service stopped dropping off pennies to his Baltimore stores, he has saved up

Before reading the article, I learned about this yesterday while cashing checks at my bank. The teller informed me that they received their last shipment of pennies last week.

The first coin approved by the new government was the 1787 Fugio cent. Regular mintages of most denominations began in 1792 and 1793. The last half cent piece and the last large cent were minted in 1857. It now costs the U.S. Mint about four cents to mint each one cent piece. Inevitably, production has to cease, except for collectors' proof sets and mint sets. On the other hand, there is a probably a gallon jar full of pennies in half of American homes now, some untouched for decades. There are literally hundreds of billions of Lincoln cents out there. They'll never be scarce. Collectors might have some interesting discoveries in those abandoned one cent pieces. A few are quite valuable.

It is now time to set a national standard for pricing being displayed without the subsequent addition of tax afterward. "What you see is what you pay."

The time to phase out pennies was a couple of decades ago. It was time a decade ago to phase out nickels and dimes as well. Replace with eights. Keep quarters. Quarters and eights. No other coins.

Price products to include the tax associated with the purchase, rounded to the nearest nickel. Makes for a cleaner transaction. But I'm sure a lot of businesses would just round up to the next nickel. Either way it solves the penny problem.

I have several 5 gallon jugs of change and I'm keeping them. This is what happens when they continue to devalue the money to the point that its worthless. Next it will be nickels. Eventually they will be printing and using 10 million dollar bills, just like Zimbabwe. They will be blowing around in the street, not even worth picking up. As it is, the dollar is only worth 2 cents compared to 1900. We are ruled by evil fools.

I am against eliminating the penny. It is a useful coin - it's not broken, don't fix it. Sales tax rates all over the country are going to go up as a result. In addition, when sales tax rates are increased, it will default to a minimum 1% increase. It may not sound like a lot, but it adds up. The penny is also a useful psychological tool in the business world too. An item is more likely to sell at $19.99 each than it is at $20.00 each.

There are over 150 billion pennies still in circulation. We're not in any danger of running out anytime soon. There are enough out there to easily last another 50-100 years. I still get pennies from the 40s back in change. It's an illusion of scarcity.

Although the 30-year-old Northeastern University graduate is running for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts to unseat incumbent Democrat Ed Markey, we surprisingly know very little about him at this stage. However, social media users criticized Frey’s use of the foreign language, one person writing, “How embarrassing. CNN last month reported on struggling federal workers whose emergency funds had evaporated, while the Associated Press reported: “Federal workers endure financial strain and fear layoffs as the government shutdown drags on.” An Oct. 27 commentary on MSNBC blamed President Trump and House Republicans for “abandoning federal workers who have now missed two paychecks.”

Germany's grand “Muslim Miracle” was supposed to save the country’s future. Instead, it broke it into a million pieces. About ten years ago, German leaders sold their citizens on a utopian plan: import millions of young Muslims to flood the workforce, rescue a collapsing pension system, and secure the nation’s prosperity for generations. The theory sounded far-fetched and absurd, but Germans bought into it. However, the reality was a total disaster. Fast-forward to today, and Germany is now raising its retirement age to 70. President Donald Trump has named Andrea Lucas as chair of the country’s top workplace civil rights agency, the agency announced Thursday. The move signals a vote of confidence for Lucas’s efforts to stamp out diversity programs and protect freedom of religion in the workplace. First nominated to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 2020 during Trump’s first administration, Lucas was confirmed in July for a second five-year term. Democratic lawmakers strongly opposed Lucas’ confirmation, accusing her of politicizing the agency against Congress’s intent and undermining workers’ civil rights. Republican lawmakers praised her leadership, especially her commitment to rolling back Biden-era guidance on workplace policies related to transgenderism

If they succeed in hitting Gotham with enormous financial penalties for electing socialist radical Zohran Mamdani, the GOP wackos will end up penalizing all 8 million New Yorkers, including the 1 million who rejected Mamdani to vote for other candidates. The efforts also could turn Mamdani into a martyr, which would boost his popularity and inspire far-leftist copycat candidates across America. Another unintended consequence of the daffy congressional effort could be the death of the election chances of one of their own.
