Legal Challenge Overturns Scholarship
Limited to Black Students in California

Original Article

This summer the Pacific Legal Foundation filed a lawsuit to end a scholarship available to University of California Sand Diego (UCSD) students. The group sued on behalf of a student named Kai Peters who was a UCSD student but who was not eligible to apply for the scholarship because he is white. The Black Alumni Scholarship Fund (BASF) awards up to $10,000 to students who maintain a 2.7 GPA and participate in various programs like student mentoring. Kai would gladly participate, but the program is exclusive to black students. He is white, and therefore ineligible.

Comments:

Many potential students could maintain a 2.4 while standing on their heads. But they are white.

Fascinating Liberal Logic. Screw someone deserving now because some minority, deserving or not, may have been screwed by a system which no longer exists. It isn't "levelling the playing field" it is rewarding mediocrity. Equity? Should a white child be starved today because a black child starved a century ago?

You can achieve a 2.7 GPA by signing up for a number of "Easy A" courses to balance out the Ds from the harder courses. Your degree won't be worth much, but a buck is a buck.

#3 is correct. Two other ways are ethnic studies where everyone gets an A, and semesters abroad - same deal. (I suspect Barack did the semesters abroad and that's why no one knew him or remembered having a class with him. Back in the 1980s and 1990s, I was responsible for recruiting students for our graduate professional program. I had a total of 12 graduate assistantships to awatrd, with three of the twelve 'minority only.' The typical GA 0 white - had a gpa anywhere from 3,2 to 3,6. The minority student could have a 2.0 gpa, and still receive a graduate assistantship. And when the corporate recruiters came to our university, guess who they wanted to hire??

A 2.7 GPA is like Hunter Biden's paintings winning in an art show. A Turtle could step over that bar.

With Alvin Bragg’s re-election under

While Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has gotten the lion’s share of the media attention these last several weeks, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg quietly sailed through his reelection bid, securing more than 70% of the vote. Bragg’s win reflects a bucking of what some might have been tempted to call a national trend of so-called “progressive” prosecutors around the country being made to suffer the electoral consequences of going soft on crime. Recent examples include LA’s George Gascón, Oakland’s Pamela Price, San Francisco’s Chesa Boudin, and Athens, Ga.’s Deborah Gonzalez, defeated in the wake of Laken Riley’s murder.

Lefty luminary Van Jones was among those raising alarm at Democratic socialist mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s rage-filled victory speech, noting his instant “character switch” at winning power. A roaring Mamdani wasted no time in claiming a mandate for his potentially budget-busting progressive agenda and taunting President Trump as he rallied his fired-up supporters soon after winning Tuesday night. Jones was quick to note live on CNN that the 34-year-old’s triumphant demeanor was a far cry from the cool, calm and collected candidate seen on the campaign trail. “I think he missed an opportunity.

Voting machines went down in three districts of New Jersey early Tuesday, which is Election Day, according to Early Vote Action’s Scott Presler. Just before 8:00 a.m., Presler reported via X that three red districts in Cumberland County saw their machines go down. “In 3 RED districts in Cumberland County, NJ, the machines are down. On the phone w/ legal right now,” he wrote: Other conservatives on the social media platform highlighted the news and urged people not to skip out on voting. “Election machines have gone down in multiple locations across CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NJ – where Republicans are outperforming their 2024 turnout by double digits, Scott Presler says. Isn’t that suspicious.

Across New Jersey, bomb threats at multiple polling locations have prompted closures and relocations today. Attorney General Matthew Platkin says law enforcement responded to emailed threats at polling places in seven New Jersey counties and secured each location. He says some of these polling locations have already reopened to the public, while at others, voters have been directed to a nearby polling location to cast their ballot. “Voters should continue to have confidence that they can cast their ballot without fear of intimidation, and we will continue to work tirelessly to ensure a free, fair, and secure election.

Terrifying surveillance video shows the moment the UK mass train stabbing suspect stormed into a barbershop armed with a huge knife — just one day before he allegedly carried out his bloody rampage on a London-bound train. Anthony Williams, 32, was caught on camera pacing outside the barbershop Friday night soon after he allegedly knifed a 14-year-old boy in a separate attack, the Sun reported. The maniac could be seen whipping out the huge blade and barging into the shop as employees and customers scrambled out of the way just before 7:30 p.m. It wasn’t immediately clear if anyone was injured in the ordeal.

A Pennsylvania diocese has apologized for a shocking grade school Halloween parade float that displayed a replica of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp gate. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg formally apologized Friday for the offensive float’s appearance during Thursday evening’s Halloween parade. Bishop Timothy Senior said he was “shocked and appalled to learn” the float entered by the St. Joseph Catholic School in Hanover, which resembled the Auschwitz Concentration Camp gate, included the words “Arbeit Macht Frei.” The German phrase — translating to “Work Makes You Free” — was prominently displayed at World War II-era concentration camps across Europe, including the front gate at Auschwitz, where more than 1 million people were executed

New Yorkers elected their first socialist mayor Tuesday, handing far-left Democrat Zohran Mamdani an historic victory — as he claimed a mandate for his potentially budget-busting progressive agenda and all but declared war on President Trump. The Associated Press and NY1 called the race for the 34-year-old Mamdani about 40 minutes after polls closed at 9 p.m., inspiring cheers from his supporters at his campaign’s Brooklyn watch party. “New York, tonight you have delivered a mandate for change, a mandate for a new kind of politics, a mandate for a city that we can afford and a mandate for a government that delivers exactly that,”

Andrew Cuomo got 41.7%, while Curtis Sliwa -- the only rational candidate still left on the ballot -- received 7.1% of the vote. Over the next few days, professional Republicans will shake their heads and lament the outcome of the race. But few, if any, will acknowledge the truth: Mamdani’s victory is the direct result of mass immigration. New York City wasn’t lost to a communist because the radical left out-organized the Democrat establishment. New York City was lost to a communist because we lost control of our borders — not just our southern border, but every single border separating the United States from the rest

Supreme Court justices on Wednesday morning expressed skepticism about the legality of aggressive tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump against most of the world's nations. Conservative and liberal justices sharply questioned Solicitor General D. John Sauer on the Trump administration's method for enacting the tariffs, which critics say infringes on the power of Congress to tax. Lower federal courts have ruled that Trump lacked the legal authority he cited under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose the so-called reciprocal tariffs on imports from many U.S. trading partners, and fentanyl tariffs on products from Canada, China and Mexico.

Democrats dominated the first major Election Day since President Donald Trump returned to the White House. And while a debate about the future of the Democratic Party may have only just begun, there are signs that the economy — specifically, Trump’s inability to deliver the economic turnaround he promised last fall — may be a real problem for Trump’s GOP heading into next year’s higher-stakes midterm elections. Democrats on Tuesday won governor’s races in Virginia and New Jersey, the only states electing new chief executives this year. They also swept a trio of state Supreme Court contests in swing-state Pennsylvania and ballots measures from Colorado to Maine.
