Donald Trump has demanded that the Senate abolish the filibuster. [Truth]
"THE CHOICE IS CLEAR – INITIATE THE ‘NUCLEAR OPTION,’ GET RID OF THE FILIBUSTER," Trump demanded.
The Senate Republicans politely declined to cooperate. A spokesman for Senate Republican Majority Leader John Thune remained unmoved: “Leader Thune’s position on the importance of the legislative filibuster is unchanged." Thune has consistently spoken against ending the filibuster or reforming it.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, who doesn't have stake in the debate, nevertheless pointed out the consequences of getting rid of the filibuster, listing action items the Democrats would be able to pass with a simple majority.
“They would pack the Supreme Court,

Thune is right. Leave it as it is. Dems will take care of Chuckie and the Hack.

My belief is that Donald Trump spoke with Thune and Johnson and they agreed not to end the filibuster, but Trump could ask them to as further evidence of his attempt to end the government closure, and further blame it on the democrats.

Change the filibuster rules to require the active speeches on the Senate floor to continue it. That means,at least, taking turns speaking continuously around the clock. No pauses for weekends and vacations. A filibuster should be a filibuster. Period.

I tend to agree with the article, but wish I could shake the feeling that the 'Rats will do so at their first opportunity.

Far too many precedents have already been set. We don't need more.
The people getting elected don't govern. They line their pockets and buy votes. People support this thinking they benefit from what's going on. That's why we are drowning in our own debt. Don't give them any openings. They aren't looking out for us.

Trump did not say getting rid of the filibuster is a good idea. He said the Democrats are going to do it. And that changs the math, and neither FTA or OP have addressed that. .... We are not looking at filibuster yes/no. We are looking at filibuster us now or filibuster them later. Please analyze those two alternatives.

I do not understand these people. Reid ended the filibuster for federal judges. Was Rick in a coma when that happened? As soon as the Democrats organize the Senate, they will end the filibuster. Is there any doubt? Does the Speaker understand that banning firearms by legislative act is unconstitutional? Where did he go to law school? Thune is living in the 1970's. His Marxist friends across the aisle are not I'm not in favor of getting rid of the filibuster. I am in favor of getting rid of silly reasons "conservatives" use to not gain a political advantage by at least using a one-time exemption to open the government. .

There is no constitutional provision for the filibuster, and a 60 vote threshold is not a filibuster anyway. A filibuster is when they get up there and talk around the clock to delay a vote. If they want to do that, let them put the effort into it. No more "filibusters" spent at home in front of the TV or out boinking pages. Get up there and talk.

There are exceptions to the filibuster and 60 vote rule. "Reconcilation" bills and judge appointments all the way to SCOTUS are a simple majority. Extend that rule to include continuing resolutions to fund the government at the current rate (no "Christmas tree" bills with lots of added items).

If the Republican senators end the filibuster and then re-open the government, the Democrat propaganda that only the Republicans can open the government will have been proven true to the majority of Americans who have no real idea of what is going on. The filibuster more or less requires that the Democrats admit defeat when they will inevitably vote to open the government. Trump is wrong on this and I hope the Rep. senators ignore him. Don't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

If Demzis would pack the SC, do it first.
Get rid of the filibuster now and preempt anything the lefties would do.

Many are saying keep the filibuster because the Democrats will do horrible things without it once they are in power. But those exact same Democrats will also not hesitate to eliminate the filibuster themselves so they can freely do all those horrible things. They have already almost destroyed America. They have to be stopped!

From what I've read, there is nothing in the Constitution about filibusters.

Senate “rules” be damned. If it ain’t in the Constitution, it ain’t happening. Oh, and “Bills” are supposed to be ONE issue at a time to be voted on, not a telephone book wish list giving constituents all sorts of trinkets for the holidays.
