Walmart says its stores will remain open as a possible lapse in food aid threatens to disrupt shopping patterns nationwide. A Walmart spokesperson told The Dallas Express via telephone on Wednesday that “Walmart stores will be open,” and implied that the company would be monitoring the situation closely. The potential suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits could significantly impact retailers nationwide, particularly those heavily reliant on lower-income shoppers. The looming halt in benefits, set to begin November 1 if the government shutdown continues, would cut off food aid for roughly 42 million Americans. Analysts and economists have warned that the shock could ripple across the retail sector, reducing grocery sales, depressing

What?! From the article: The Numerator study found that SNAP users spend an average of $832 per month on groceries—about 20% more than non-SNAP households—but exhaust their benefits before the month’s end in 86% of cases. Despite this, “over four in five SNAP users’ benefits don’t last the full month,” the report stated. “SNAP households are saying their nutritional needs are not being met.”

I suggest that Walmart, Kroger, etc. hire off-duty law enforcement officers as extra security in crime prone areas. They have spent so much money on the self check outs trying to catch people stealing that the biggest problem is just waltzing out the door with a full cart of stolen goods.

If the government can spend money they don't have, the banks can lend money they don't have (/s). How many of the banks would flunk a solvency test if that were to happen? SNAP and others don't care. It's 'free' money! We are in this predicament because the people we elect don't actually govern. They are a reflection of the free money crowd.

Not too long ago, I was asked to help someone find a local food pantry. (Elderly, disabled woman who needed short-term assistance.) My small, rural Maryland county has more than a dozen! From what I saw, only one required you to provide proof of need. I drove the woman to one so she could pick up some produce. They filled the back of my SUV, and asked if we wanted more. True, some of it was useless - kale and eggplants that were only fit for compost - but there was enough produce for a family for weeks. I blanched and vacuumed-sealed it for her so she could freeze a lot of it, made refrigerator pickles, etc. I asked her recently if she needs another ride; she's still eating on the produce she got that one visit two months ago. No one in this country is in danger of starving if they just look.

You ever why the Walmart heirs support every leftist cause? It's because those causes create poverty. And Walmart needs poverty to survive! It's employees heavily rely on welfare to live. About 10% of its gross sales are welfare. Welfare is the reason Walmart can stay open. It's a taxpayer-subsidized operation.

If I were running Walmart, I also would stay open. Lack of SNAP funds hurts Dem voters more than Repub voters and Schumer (and Walmart) knows it. That was why he was ready to cave to Trump on funding SNAP independent of the shutdown. Then, along came these two activist judges who think they can tell the president what to do. It will take a bit longer, but SNAP will be funded and Walmart does not have to close and look like a the giant meanie.
