Good Luck, New York: Mamdani Plans to
Tax Businesses Even If They're Based Outside NYC

Original Article

We suppose the silver lining of New York electing an avowed Democratic Socialist as mayor is that we'll get to see how disastrous his socialist policies really are, and that'll discourage the rest of the nation from voting for socialism. But we won't pretend that learning that lesson will be hard, especially for the people of New York who didn't vote for Mamdani. In his latest tax-grab scheme, Zohran Mamdani vows to tax businesses that leave New York and, it seems, any company that merely does business in New York, even if they're headquartered elsewhere.

Comments:

Good luck with that one, Commie Mamdani!!

Please correct me if I am wrong but, the rebuttal would sound like no taxation without representation. If he can do this, then any state in the Union could go after any company it wishes. Chaos would reign, but, is this the ultimate goal?

It amazes me how many ignorant/stupid people live in one place. I knew NYC was full of idiots but even that number surprises me. This man is a communist. And if NYC votes him into office whatever happens to them, well what the hell did they expect. Not sure if I want it to be a flash fire, burns hot and quick. Or a slow smoldering fire that cooks them over a long period of time like a pork butt on the 4th of July. I don't understand why they don't see it. Disaster is ahead. And like the iceberg and the Titanic will the be able to make a sharp turn and save themselves? I don't think so.

FTA: "So the way that this tax works is it applies to any business doing business here. They could be located in Miami, but if they're doing business in New York, it applies to them," Mamdani said. Basically, he's targeting Trump and the Trump family, in particular with this "example". So, all those companies who do business with the Ports are going to be taxed simply because they ship cargo through the port? Presumably, if you invest in stocks and the exchange is in NY then you theoretically could be taxed too?

Can't wait to see how he pays for ''free'' bus service. They will probably tax all other forms of transportation. One idea floated is to raise rates on subways, bridge tolls, Uber, etc... The increases will be exorbitant, and the buses will be full of miscreants.

If I was any company, I would look for ways to minimize my footprint in New York City with the probable election of Comrade Mamdami. If his regime adds any taxes for business done in New York City, I would be advising my NYC customers that we will have to add a surcharge to our prices to cover such taxes, fees, or additional costs. It's going to be tough for Comrade to collect taxes from businesses that do not have a location in his realm. Chances are, he'll have to collect the tax from the NYC businesses or residents doing business with the non-NYC business.

There are corporations who have headquarters in NYC who are making plans even now to remove their headquarters or any footprint that they might have there if Mamdani were to be elected This isn't the world of 1970 anymore. Technology has enabled millions to work remotely. Two of my sons-in-law work remotely/ One has to make an occasional trip to call on a client but other than that, they work from home or while traveling. A former employee of mine does the same and so does my daughter Occasional trips might be made to the home office but that office will eventually be moved to a red state that doesn't punish their business. No communist country is successful. North Koreans live like serfs of the middle ages and even the Marxist states like China have had to relent and become semi-capitalist. I do have empathy for the poor people who have no means to escape since if you try, you can be executed. It's tells a lot that no one tries to break into North Korea or East Berlin etal. They want out, not in.

The government claims to fight “child poverty” by providing benefits to low-income families so their children don’t starve. These programs also cover the citizen children of illegal aliens. Eligibility is based on the parents’ income. However, illegal aliens working off the books do not have Social Security numbers, do not file income tax declarations, and are not even supposed to be employed. Because their income cannot be verified, the government simply accepts whatever number they write down. And if it is below threshold, the government gives them benefits.
