Ronald Reagan was known for a typically cogent observation about government: "Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it." As is so often the case, he was right. He likely didn't foresee the onset of electric vehicles and the climate scolds' touting of them to prevent the planet from catching on fire; those were subsidized before they ever moved in the first place.
But those subsidies are gone now, and so a bunch of people who worked on vehicles and batteries are finding themselves out of work.
Congressional candidate Kat Abughazaleh took part in a protest last month at the Broadview ICE facility just outside of Chicago, where she was physically removed after trying to interfere with operations.
Now, she's facing a pretty serious federal indictment.
Abughazaleh, a 26-year-old social media influencer running to represent the 9th Congressional District in Illinois, has been charged with two counts: conspiracy to impede or injure an Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer, and assaulting or impeding that officer while engaged in his official duties.
The conspiracy count, according to an MSNBC report, carries the potential for a six-year prison sentence

Too bad Barack Obama doesn't want to reciprocate. The American people, and others around the world, have been sold a bill of goods on wind and solar energy. These electricity sources are intermittent, unreliable, and ridiculously expensive. Those defects supposedly were outweighed by their environmental benefits. But are there, in fact, any environmental benefits?
The reality is that both wind and solar energy are terrible for the environment. This is because they are absurdly low-power energy sources, so they require vast quantities of materials (mining, manufacturing, transportation and construction) and land to produce minimal amounts of electricity.

Wikipedia has long been a liberal bastion. It is useful for basic facts–in what year did Charles V die?–but on any politically controversial topic, its editors skew content to the left, and sometimes propagate outright misinformation.
Now Wikipedia has a competitor, Grokipedia. Grokipedia is a Grok product, and therefore part of the Elon Musk empire. I believe it is still in a beta version, but some are saying that it is already better than Wikipedia, and less biased. It would be great if it could put Wikipedia out of business.

The Democrats appear to be a never-ending source of pitiable entertainment these days. Last week, it was the pathetic “No Kings” (what some mischievous wag called “No Brains”) rallies across the country. Those 2,700 anti-Trump therapy sessions for aging, anencephalic boomers were funded to the tune of $294 million by such public-spirited individuals and entities as Arabella Advisors, the Tides Foundation, George Soros, and Warren Buffett. Such streams of cash funneled millions through dozens of left-leaning entities, including the American Civil Liberties Union, the National LGBTQ Task Force, the Sierra Club Foundation, the Democracy Forward Foundation, and other havens for the perpetually aggrieved.

Even from a distance it is painful to observe the rise of Zohran Mamdani. I’d love to see a reboot of Mad Men that told the inside story à la Veep, but without the laughs. Maybe a few giggles, as the Mamd man demonstrates the limits of socialism in one city.

In a random act of journalism, the New York Times did an investigative piece headlined, "Can Anyone Rescue the Trafficked Girls of L.A.’s Figueroa Street?" The gray lady did a deep dive on a corridor near the University of Southern California (USC) in South Los Angeles known as "the Blade," which is notorious for prostitution, drug dealing, and child sex trafficking.
While the piece detailed the circumstances that led to the explosion of sex trafficking and crime and documented a trafficking sting involving a young victim, the journalist never bothered to answer the query in the headline. The potential law enforcement endeavors and rescue are merely scratching

Here in America, the Springsteen biopic opened to a truly dreadful $9.1 million. With billions more customers available overseas and Springsteen’s status as a global superstar, you’d think that’s where the money is.Nope.
The movie only scooped up another $7 million internationally, which means that its overall global take was a measly $16 million.

Breitbart News reported at least 11 people were shot Friday into Saturday night alone, and one of those shooting victims succumbed to his wounds.

One aspect of the government shutdown that probably wasn’t anticipated by Chuck Schumer and other Democrats, is that it has revealed to the public just how many people receive food stamps. Years ago, when the program was still called ‘food stamps’ it was seen as something that struggling families might use temporarily to get through a hard time. Then it was re-branded as the ‘SNAP’ program and destigmatized. People were encouraged to enroll. Now there are many more people using the program, many who probably don’t even really need it. Congress is barreling toward a critical deadline for extending the enhanced ObamaCare subsidies at the heart of the government shutdown, and it may already be too late to shield the public from sticker shock with open-enrollment window shopping underway.
If somehow there is a deal done ahead of Nov.1, which looks unlikely, states and the federal government may still have time to incorporate the enhanced subsidies into their prices. But Republicans have made it clear that there will need to be changes to the tax credits before they even entertain an extension.

President Donald Trump’s firing of all members of an independent federal agency expected to review some of his construction projects, including his planned $300 million White House ballroom, has sparked an online backlash.
Trump fired six members of the Commission of Fine Arts, a group of architectural experts that advises the federal government on historic preservation and public buildings, on Tuesday. The Washington Post first reported the firings.
A White House official told the newspaper that new members who were more aligned with Trump’s "America First" policies would be named to the commission.
