One aspect of the government shutdown that probably wasn’t anticipated by Chuck Schumer and other Democrats, is that it has revealed to the public just how many people receive food stamps. Years ago, when the program was still called ‘food stamps’ it was seen as something that struggling families might use temporarily to get through a hard time. Then it was re-branded as the ‘SNAP’ program and destigmatized. People were encouraged to enroll. Now there are many more people using the program, many who probably don’t even really need it. The longer the shutdown goes on, the more reports there are about this and it’s stunning to taxpayers

Some recipients sell their SNAP allotments - 50 cents on the dollar.

Crazy indeed. I read articles on how we need to feed every student breakfast and lunch. I had breakfast at home and I made my own lunch. My family wasn't poor, but at the lower end of the income strata. Let's go back to helping the needy and not the greedy.

I saw a chart the other day on who was getting the food stamp money and it was unbelievable.
Americans were way down the list on who was receiving the funds.

When I was a little feller, my Dad died and left my Mother with 7 children to raise alone. This was in 1966. Back then many women, my mother included, never had a public job, their job was raising the kids. My Mother had never even driven. She raised us on a little dab of social security and a garden! When we head about food stamps, my Mother applied. She was turned down due to my older brother working a little for local farmers clearing rocks from fields and such things.
BTW...We lived in a rented shack for 12 bucks a month, no heat except in one room, the water was from a well in the yard where you brought in water in a bucket.
There was a family that lived about 4 miles from us, they owned the home they lived in, they had a new mustang and a new superbee to ride in. They came to the store near us one day when I happened to be there, they bought enough candy to look like they had just got back from trick or treating, and paid for it with food stamps.

The author should have titled the article how many `non-Americans` are on food stamps rather than how many people are on food stamps.

Oh, we know, it's just that we were forced to accept it all our lives by democrats. I also knew people like your family, #5. Many people who actually needed the benefits were denied. My best friend in elementary school came from a family of Russian immigrants and he was embarrassed about picking up the cheese and peanut butter from the local assistance office. Now the free stuff is expected like an entitlement and too many people game the system. Taxpayers don't mind feeding the hungry American citizens who can't work but unfortunately, they are in the minority when it comes to receiving assistance from the government.

So which is it? Americans and other people in this country are too fat/morbidly obese or are about to die of hunger when their taxpayer subsidized food runs out?

The Shumer shut down creates a perfect opportunity to thin the herd of SNAP recipients. When the government opens again, require all former recipients to re-apply for SNAP benefits. SNAP offices will be manned by ICE and Border Patrol agents. Demand that all applicants produce proof of citizenship and financial proof of meeting requirements to receive SNAP benefits.

We need to get at least 80% of these grifters off of government free food.

This is one of those "How to Lie With Statistics" articles.
The article is NOT giving us what percentage of food stamp recipients belong to the groups mentioned. It is giving us the percentage of the immigrants in the groups mentioned that are getting food stamps. Otherwise, we are being led to believe that 45% of the 42 million food stamp recipients are Afghanis; that is 18,900,000.
Do you think that there are 18,900,000 Afghani immigrants in the US food stamp recipients or not ?
Or add all the percentages together. The total is 144% (Last I heard, 100% makes a whole.)
The article is correct is saying that most of the people on food stamps are not from the U.S., just not at these percentages.
FTA:
“There are 42 million people in this country that need food stamps on a weekly basis.”
“And we’re saying ‘people’ deliberately instead of Americans because most of the people that are on food stamps aren’t even from this country.”
“45% of Afghanistan immigrants are on food stamps.”
“42% of Somali immigrants, 34% of every immigrant from Iraq, 23% of Haitians.”
Oh. Gateway Pundit.
