AT&T has quietly expanded its foreign workforce while securing a multimillion-dollar federal contract intended to bolster U.S. national security infrastructure.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security awarded AT&T a 10-year, $146 million contract last year to maintain and expand emergency communications systems such as the Government Emergency Telecommunications Service and Wireless Priority Service, according to a September 2024 company press release. The award extends AT&T’s long-running partnership with DHS into next-generation 5G networks.
At the same time, federal immigration data shows the telecom giant has continued to rely on foreign labor. According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) H-1B Data Hub, 388 H-1B workers were approved

And this is why I use Patriot Mobile for my cell service. I save money and get a good company.
As a bonus, I get Texans answering the phone when I need to call.

Simple solution: no H1-B visas, no foreign workers.

Another reason why I refuse to use AT&T as my provider.

Have they no shame? I had AT&T in CA. Now I'm using Comcast as everyone here says AT&T sucks.

I hate to burst your bubble, #5, but Comcast/Xfinity is one of the WORST!

#6, I agree with you as far as CA service goes. They had a monopoly in Livermore, CA and they acted like it.
They have been much more reliable in CO, and I'm paying a small fraction of what I paid AT&T for phone and internet in CA.

Only American citizen employees should be hired for government contract work.

If companies don't hire H-1B workers directly then they hire contract workers from companies like Accenture. Accenture hires the H-1B workers. While Accenture over charges, companies won't need to foot the bill for employee benefits. So glad that America is hiring the world.

Using competing cell service providers is good, but what might help more in the long run is if we ALL made our voices heard at school board meetings, etc. to change our educational system. We need to bolster our STEM educational requirements or we will lose this ongoing battle. Period. 72% of H-1B visas go to Indian nationals and 12% to Chinese nationals

#12:. Unless DEI has taken over US STEM education since I got out, there's nothing wrong with it except the un-preparedness of many of the candidates coming into engineering courses. From what I've heard, read, and seen, the educations of a high percentage of Indian STEM hires isn't worth the paper their "degrees" are printed on. Corporate/management greed and sociopathic policies will be a big contributor to America's downfall.

FYI: The smaller. and generally cheaper, cell providers don't have their own networks. I have Spectrum service in Florida but it re-sells the service from Verizon.
Patriot Mobile partners with all three major networks (AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless) to provide service. When you create an account with Patriot Mobile, you’ll be assigned to the network with the best coverage in your area.

Long ago, I had AT&T for long distance. A pay phone would have been cheaper. They kept raising their rate. Needless to say, I switched. Don't know how anyone willingly does business with them.

AT&T announced this in September 2024, under the HairSniffer administration.
As #10 said, President Trump might like to have a little 'conversation' with the AT&T chairman.

The govt. contract folks failed to put rules into the contract about hiring ONLY Americans, I used to do contracts in the govt. and that was very common to prevent abuse of the H1B process.

@#17 - The article states the contract was awarded last year, being 2024. That was Biden's DHS. They could have specified American citizens workers only, but didn't.
