Lefty New York City mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani says NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch will fall behind his vision for criminal-justice reforms, insisting that if he wins the race, “everyone will follow” his lead. Speaking on the Hell Gate podcast Friday, Mamdani, 34, was confronted with concerns that Tisch would stand against the type of reforms the Democratic Socialist and his supporters are pushing for, given her previous positions. “Lots of people who support your candidacy care about criminal-justice reform and reforming the NYPD, and for the past year, she has stood to thwart that,” host Christopher Robbins reminded Mamdani as the host asked for an explanation as to why the frontrunner said

Democrat Backfire: The Government Shutdown
Has Awakened the Public About How Many

One aspect of the government shutdown that probably wasn’t anticipated by Chuck Schumer and other Democrats, is that it has revealed to the public just how many people receive food stamps. Years ago, when the program was still called ‘food stamps’ it was seen as something that struggling families might use temporarily to get through a hard time. Then it was re-branded as the ‘SNAP’ program and destigmatized. People were encouraged to enroll. Now there are many more people using the program, many who probably don’t even really need it. The longer the shutdown goes on, the more reports there are about this and it’s stunning to taxpayers

Let the wailing and gnashing of teeth begin. Within the first two weeks of the ongoing government shutdown, agency heads reportedly sent permanent layoff notices to about 4,000 federal employees under the guidance of Director of the Office of Management and Budget Russ Vought. But compared to the private sector, this is a proverbial drop in the bucket. The partial lapse in government funding has dragged on for 27 days now as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and 44 other senators continue to block the “clean” government funding measure that the House passed in September. As a result of the funding lapse, Vought says that 10,000 federal employees could ultimately

AT&T has quietly expanded its foreign workforce while securing a multimillion-dollar federal contract intended to bolster U.S. national security infrastructure. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security awarded AT&T a 10-year, $146 million contract last year to maintain and expand emergency communications systems such as the Government Emergency Telecommunications Service and Wireless Priority Service, according to a September 2024 company press release. The award extends AT&T’s long-running partnership with DHS into next-generation 5G networks. At the same time, federal immigration data shows the telecom giant has continued to rely on foreign labor. According to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) H-1B Data Hub, 388 H-1B workers were approved

The order encompasses at least 28 major programs across multiple federal agencies. Housing audits include the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and public housing. The Department of Health and Human Services is reviewing 13 programs, including Head Start, Community Health Centers, Medicaid, and the Title X Family Planning Program, as well as a range of behavioral health and substance abuse grants. In another example of the Trump effect, money transfer giant Western Union is reporting that its revenue from cash transfers to locations outside the U.S. has seen a 12 percent decline this year. Migrants living in the U.S. both legally and illegally have traditionally been the greatest source of U.S. dollars flowing out of America and into foreign nations, even dwarfing the amount of foreign aid lavished on the world by the U.S. government. But with Donald Trump’s focus on immigration, Western Union is seeing far fewer customers needing their services. Last week, Western Union CEO Devin McGranahan told investors that the company had seen a huge decline in cash transfers to

A college financial aid advisor allegedly strangled his girlfriend before setting fire to their upstate New York home while she and their newborn baby were inside, according to authorities and reports. Kidane Haile, 30, was indicted Thursday after a horrific scene unfolded at 8:35 a.m. on Oct. 18 when Buffalo firefighters responded to a blaze at an apartment on Norwood Avenue, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office said in a statement. Inside the home, first responders found Haile’s girlfriend, 29-year-old Kathleen “Katie” Carrig, and their 4-day-old son, Noah, unresponsive. Both the mother and son were pronounced dead on the scene, prosecutors said. Haile strangled Carrig before setting the house ablaze, prosecutors alleged.

Nor is it difficult to divine what has led to this dismal state of affairs — the party has lurched so far to the left that most of its iconic leaders would be regarded as too conservative to win the Democratic presidential nomination.
