The U.S. Secret Service, alongside local law enforcement and state agency partners, conducted an Electronic Benefit Transfer fraud and payment card skimming outreach operation in Baltimore and the surrounding area on Oct. 22-23. Personnel visited 493 businesses and removed 22 illegal skimming devices, preventing an estimated potential loss of nearly $22.9 million. More than 3,000 point-of-sale terminals, gas pumps and ATMs were inspected. Teams also distributed educational materials about Electronic Benefit Transfer fraud and skimming to businesses to help them better identify the warning signs of illegal skimming devices in their point-of-sale terminals, gas pumps and ATMs.

While this is a great job, i'll bet that probably stopped 20% of the fraud,.

That is why it is safer to tap the card rather that swiping it. The card's NFC chip does not transmit static data like the card number. When tapped, a unique encrypted code called a token is generated for that single transaction. The token is sent to the payment network and the card-issuing bank for verification. Because the code is single-use, it cannot be intercepted and used for a different, fraudulent charge.

If you really want to find fraud look at all the “Arab corner stores” that sell Walmart products at the same price or less than Walmart. They buy stamps at .50 on the dollar and then go shopping at Walmart. They’re in essence paying 2.00 for a 4.00 gallon of milk so naturally they can sell it for 3.75.

The chip reader works the same way as the tap feature. But nobody needs the information to steal the money. People who loose their cards or have them stolen get their accounts cleaned out all of the time. Name, number, code number, zip code is all you need to internet order. You need to fight to get reimbursed, meanwhile your account is empty or frozen and the perp gets away with it. EBT (food stamps) have been traded at discount since it started. Free money to by stuff the card won't buy.

About seven years ago when I was returning at night from a friend's condo on the beach, I filled up at a Marathon half way to my place, and drove home. Almost as soon as I got back, my bank was texting me, asking if I was the one in Cupertino, California that just ordered (and got) $100 worth of pizza. No. Never been there before. Since I live in Florida, I knew a skimmer got me. It took a few days to get a new credit card. Now I pay for gas in cash.

He was a BIG victor, he had a lot of help from us!” the president exulted to reporters on Air Force One en route to Japan from Malaysia. “It was unexpected!”With partial results reported, Milei’s La Libertad Avanza had increased its seats in the Chamber of Deputies to at least 64 from 37 and gained at least six seats in the Argentine Senate.

In the late 1850s, “Bleeding Kansas” was the term used to describe the escalating cycle of violence, when surrogates for the Union and soon-to-be Confederacy fought each other over whether Kansas would be admitted as a free or slave-owning state. As the assaults and killings increased, radicals set the agenda. The logical next step was the nightmares of Fort Sumter and Bull Run. Those calling for restraint and peaceful resolutions were considered weak and traitorous. The thuggish and violent, instead, were praised as the true idealists and patriots, the real “base” of their respective parties.

A Virginia federal prosecutor who opposed bringing bank fraud charges against New York Attorney General Letitia James was fired after allegedly mishandling sensitive information related to the case, according to a report. Beth Yusi, who had worked out of the Norfolk office for the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, allegedly sent investigative files containing James’ personally identifying information to her private email account, CNN reported on Friday, citing an internal email. Yusi, who had been employed by the Justice Department since 2010, was axed earlier this month. Several media reports suggested Yusi was fired for pushing back against pressure from the Trump administration to charge James.

They called his Christian markings “white supremacist and extremist,” as they tried to derail his confirmation for secretary of defense. Some mistakenly thought the cross was a Nazi swastika. It isn’t. Now the press is making excuses for the actual Nazi symbol that was tattooed on Maine’s Democrat Senate candidate Graham Platner’s chest. Platner would challenge Republican incumbent Sen. It’s definitely intelligence driven, it’s not random,” Lyons said. “We aren’t pulling people off the street. If Zohran Mamdani is elected mayor and implements the changes he is promising, expect the city's financial condition and public safety to deteriorate rapidly. Think criminal bedlam, antisemitic rioters allowed full rein, and cutbacks to basic city services. In such a crisis, desperate New Yorkers will look to Albany, where the governor has virtually unlimited power to curb the mayor's authority or remove him, even if no crime has been committed. There is a safety valve, if a governor is willing to use it. Before removing a mayor, state law requires the governor to present grievances against the mayor at a formal hearing.

On November 5, 2024, Donald Trump won the United States presidential election against Kamala Harris. It was a convincing win. Trump snagged victory in the Electoral College, where the contest is officially decided, 312 to 226. He needed only 270 to prevail. He also won the popular vote (a nice but unnecessary distinction), with 77,302,580 votes to 75,017,613, a margin of almost 2 million votes. I mention these well-known facts to underscore the black comedy of the “No Kings” protests taking place across the country as I write. According to several sources, some 2500 separate protests are planned. Millions of people are expected to join in the fun.

Earlier, the Prime Minister's Office announced that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had instructed Israel's armed forces to respond with force against Gazan terror targets during a consultation with Defense Minister Israel Katz and the heads of Israel's security establishment.

Tellingly, the most senior of the nine officers axed on the 17th was General He Weidong, the second-ranked vice chairman of the Commission and Xi Jinping's No. 1 loyalist in the PLA. The general had gained prominence as Xi's top enforcer in the military. Gen. He was not the only officer who backed Xi and has now been taken out of the military's leadership ranks. Moreover, it is difficult to identify any Xi adversary who was purged in the last 18 months. It is unlikely, at a time Xi Jinping appears to be fighting for political survival, that he would remove his most important supporter in the military.

With the aid of government subsidies, we are putting up electric generating windmills all over the place. Such subsidies include the Production Tax Credit (PTC), which, according to the Institute for Energy research (IRER), provides a per-kilowatt-hour tax credit for electricity generated by qualified wind projects; and the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which provides a tax credit based on the investment made in renewable energy projects, including wind. According to IRER, trillions are being invested here. The United States, under the Biden-Harris climate bill,
