There's an old internet meme going around that depicts a plate of bacon and eggs, with the caption, "They say every strip of bacon you eat takes six minutes off your life. If that were true, I'd have died in 1788." I don't know as I've eaten quite that much bacon in my life, but I've sure had some, and will probably have quite a bit more. Bacon is meat candy; it's a gift pigs give us when we're good.
So, of course, some people are trying to take it away.
Scientists are calling for a ban on supermarket bacon and ham after the chemicals used in their production were linked

How many of these patients ate lettuce? Or fish and chips? Or peas and carrots? etc etc etc Or wear white underwear, or watch soccer, enjoy a pint now and then. It could be anything and it could be nothing. As a rule I do not eat a strip of bacon. I use it as a seasoning in baked beans, green beans, or as a crumbled up topping like on a baked potato. I like it, leave me alone and go away.

I'm thinking a couple of BLT's with some thick-sliced, hickory smoked bacon, would be a great Saturday evening supper!

Respectfully, I'd like to call for a ban on "experts" who are have the collective IQ of a begonia. No offense to begonias.

Well, what do they expect us to do with the pork bellies after we slaughter the pigs on the farm? After going through the slicing machine, the slabs of pork bellies are slathered with fragrant liquid smoke for hours or days until the meat is properly smoky.
If you're a really enterprising hunter, try going out and eradicaing feral hogs in the field. They do a lot of damage everywhere they go. Texas and Florida are particularly hard hit. Most states don't even have a season or a limit on feral hogs. They're hard to get rid of. Teams of riflemen go out where the hogs are plentiful, and try to wipe out entire sounders, even the little footballs. Feral hog population is estimated to be over ten million nationwide, and they're spreading rapidly. A former neighbor of mine is a Florida State Trooper, part of a team of hired professional hunters who never shoot in the wrong direction, or shoot the wrong thing in the wrong season. Although they're licensed hunters, their late night business is to kill hogs and coyotes, which doesn't require a hunting license. The dead hogs, delivered by the pickup truck load, usually wind up at a dog food factory. The buzzards take care of the ones that can't be found. Last I heard, the hired hog eradicators stalk with infrared cameras mounted on drones at night between 10 PM and 4 AM. Very smart. Sometimes they shoot them from a jeep, as their quarry runs. There are multitudes of videos of hog hunting, whether by rifle, pistol, machine gun, bow and arrow, spear, blowgun, air rifle, tannerite, or what have you. Americans had better get busy before these hogs are everywhere.

I'd say that would be a step too far, but I've said it before and been wrong every time. We Americans seem to have an infinite capacity to embrace slavery. So enjoy it now so you can tell your grandkids about it after our Middle Eastern masters ban it.

Gee, I wonder how these same 'scientists' would react if someone were to propose banning marijuana, based on all the ill effects it has on the people who use it regularly.
#8, there's a large coastal marsh about a quarter-mile from my house. A couple of times in the last few years, I have heard a helicopter flying back and forth over that marsh, and someone shooting from it. My understanding is that they are eradicating wild hogs, which sometimes become numerous enough in our area to become a nuisance.

#19 is correct. There is a big business, especially in Texas, of shooting feral hogs (and coyotes and bobcats) from helicopters. Shooters fly into Texas from everywhere to cull some pigs. All that's needed is one customer, one good pilot, and one guide to keep the magazines full of rounds. The experience can cost thousands of dollars, but aerial hog hunters who've done it once say it's almost as good as sex. They're going back for some more ASAP. Numerous videos are available. Here's one brief three minute video with Pigman. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vlJsiZFh1OQ (" Gimme another thirteen-oh-one, Jimmy. ... Warfarin takes two weeks; this takes two minutes. There is carnage all in this field!")

OK, we will not sell bacon anymore.
Instead, we will sell meat-based muslim terrorist repellent. 100% dependable in repelling 60-year-old muslim men from marrying 6-year-old girls (like their beloved pedo-prophet did)!!!!! It will be in the refrigerated section and come in handy strips to easy handling!!!

Scientists? are these the same ones who told us to mask up everywhere including our vehicles? The ones who told us that the planet would burn to a cinder unless we drove expensive electric golf carts or quit using AC or central heat, go vegan and save the polar bears from looming extinction? I am 83 and have eaten bacon almost all my life. I have a lot more things to worry about than some bacon with my eggs.

"...dog food factory." Thanks for the laugh, #8. I used to enjoy watching those night vision videos on YouTube. One in particular had a couple of boars, umm, enjoying themselves with a sow, shall we say, then the fusillade begins... You can even hear the squealing.

Here's Pigman taking a large boar with a .300 Win(chester) Mag(num), Hornady ELD-X bullets, hand load, at 253 yards. The hog did not like that bullet! He got shanked. All four feet in the air ... wooops! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8OSLejudr2A ("Ahhh, ay-uh. I don't always pin tags, but when I pin tags, I pin with the ELD-X, la-la-la-la-la-la-la.")
