News organizations including The New York Times, The Associated Press and the conservative Newsmax television network said Monday they will not sign a Defense Department document about its new press rules, making it likely the Trump administration will evict their reporters from the Pentagon.
Those outlets say the policy threatens to punish them for routine news gathering protected by the First Amendment. The Washington Post, The Atlantic and Reuters on Monday also publicly joined the group that says it will not be signing. AP confirmed Monday afternoon that it would not sign.

Fine. Don’t sign. Stick to your guns Pete. We need to stop the leaks, and Newsmax can lose whatever foothold it has.

Guess I'll remove Newsmax from the channel listing. I never watched it anyway.

I haven't seen the new rules so I can't be judgmental about them, but evidently the liberal media is upset and is leading a change against any rule. The media has always felt they can do as they please and get away with it. I suppose we shall see.

If we cared any less about this we would be dead. The Pentagon does not want reporters roaming the halls of the Pentagon attempting to talk to people who work there. Does any country in the world allow reporters to access their military headquarters? The answer would be no. Newsmax surprises and disappoints me since their best news people are ex-military, some special forces, and extremely patriotic.

I assume from reading a few articles that these new rules for the media are meant to keep military operations a secret. I remember watching on tv the Marines landing for some reason, and before they hit the beach, the media was there on the beach covering it. This was a military operation supposedly to surprise some foe, and there was the U.S. media covering it like it was some sort of practice military exercise. Tv lights and all.

They do not have any right to roam freely in the Pentagon.

They are standing up for their right to sneak around the Pentagon unescorted, looking for people willing to illegally leak information to them. Really on the moral high ground here. Sad to see Newsmax throwing in with this lot.

A lot of high ranking know nothings are not happy with the new military policies. I'm sure that wandering around the Pentagon allows for much contact with these disgruntled people and unidentified comments to be made without cost to the leaker.
That stops.
The Left no longer gets juicy tidbits. The leakers will have to come into the open to make their comments and be held accountable if they do. Military discipline is of much higher standard than general government discipline. The leakers are subject to severe penalties, thus the secret, traitorous leaks. Some of the leakers could be court marshalled and lose rank and pension. Maybe they should just resign and make room for loyal Americans to take their place.
Meanwhile is always amusing to see the media find out how much power they lack.

After decades upon decades, the left has yet to learn that Freedom of the Press does not mean freedom to do whatever I want.

Since they are so concerned with government transparency, perhaps they could wander around freely in the at the CIA, FBI and Federal Courts, where we need some real transparency.

Good for Pete..there is no reason to allow those 'news seekers' the ability to sneak around the Pentagon and listen at doorways and bathroom stalls for ub-vetted and exciting tidbits to pass onto the public...without an escort...if they don't like it, tough noogies...

The Pentagon is supposed to be top security. Don't need pinkos looking for the next shocking headline running around loose.

The "Press" has First Amendment protection, not today's electronic "Media," the mouthpiece for the democrat party.

Since press not being prevented from 'reporting', I don't really see a 1st amendment issue here. They just can't wander around the building at will....

On the Larry O'Connor show (www.wmal.com) this morning (podcast not yet available) - they discussed these new rules. I wan't paying close attention but what I recall - the new rules limit the free ranger access to the Pentagon. They can no longer just wander the corridors.
This is what I found from The Guardian (don't have a paid subscription so just the headline): Defense department policy requires outlets to vow not to obtain unauthorized files and restricts access to some areas....

I used to work for a large telecommunications company. They would not have allowed reporters wandering through the building, accessing secure areas and proprietary information. The First Amendment does not apply.
