Army’s nuclear comeback: Sweeping new
program aims to break ‘tyranny of fuel’

The Army is launching a sweeping new nuclear program to generate power for bases across the globe, particularly in remote or contested locations where fuel might be difficult to obtain, Fox News Digital has learned. "Hundreds of millions" of dollars will be funneled into the program known as the Janus Project over the next five years, according to Dr. Jeff Waksman, the Army official leading the effort, to install next-generation commercial microreactors at military sites. "Great power conflict is defined by who can move their resources around," Waksman said. Energy demands are only set to increase as modern warfare trends toward drones, directed-energy weapons and artificial intelligence.

This is brilliant.

Hmmm. I'll wait until these things actually exist and are proven to be affordable and reliable.

Number1 affordable reliable , and safe. It's a great idea, if it works, if they can make it work, it has possibilities far beyond military use.

Re #4, No, not even remotely the same as the Soviet lighthouse power units, or the same exact technology that powers many deep space probes. These are plutonium therm-ionic units, no moving parts, makes electricity with thermionic solid state junctions. These are sold to power those wood stove fans that sit on top and the stove heat makes them spin. Or those "coolers" that can heat or cool in your car. The article is talking about REACTORS.....this is the same basic technology that is on a "nuke plant" that you see when you drive by one of those big ones in a few places. We have one of the best in the nation as to cost and reliability within 40 miles of where I sit, at Wolf Creek Station, eastern Kansas. This is a new generation of PREDICTED 'modular and safe' reactors. Lots of TALK about them, and AFAIK, no actual hardware has been built and run ANYWHERE for these things. As I said.....when (and if) they have AFFORDABLE, RELIABLE and (thanks #3) SAFE units, I'll applaud. Until then, this old engineer will watch with some moderate skepticism, and a hand on my wallet. This can be an open pipeline from the taxpayers to the pie in the sky folks selling this stuff.

Oh, yeah....in general, nuclear reactors respond badly to bomb and missile impacts. So, for military power anywhere that might be subjected to attack---- is this REALLY a good idea?

Day by day, year by year, what once was unthinkable has now become celebrated, and even protected by law. Meanwhile, what was once virtuous or admired is seen as hateful and backwards. The older you are, the more you see it. In the recent past, America and Europe were grounded in a Christian ethos, one that influenced everything in society. Today, a kind of egalitarian, nihilistic ethos—in which individuals create their own beliefs and shape their lives and actions around them—is taking over. If you don’t accept or tolerate those behaviors, no matter how deranged …

Charlie Kirk’s killer was not a lone wolf. He was part of a pack. He evolved from a toxic left-wing ecosystem that has produced a series of violent attacks in our nation in recent years. That ecosystem has a lot of players that stoke the destruction. It starts with socialism itself. That ideology has always been based in emotion and perceived victimhood. These days they have converted our sacrosanct free speech rights into a concept called “hate speech.”

The US Space Command, or SPACECOM, is a joint command separate from the US Space Force military branch, which is tasked with leading national security operations in space. That includes overseeing satellites and networks that provide missile warnings, communications and in-space surveillance, while also tracking orbital debris and potential threats to US and allied spacecraft.

The Catholic Herald reports Fr Giacomo Cardinali, Vice Prefect, said in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica that Muslim academics had requested an area in which to pray, and the library had agreed. “Some Muslim scholars have asked us for a room with a carpet for praying and we have given it to them,” he said. Hamas fighters have dramatically reasserted control in Gaza, defying Israeli demands for disarmament just a day after U.S. President Donald Trump was in the region signing the ceasefire agreement. On Tuesday, the militant group solidified its return by carrying out public executions of men accused of collaborating with Israeli forces. A video circulated Monday, whose authenticity was confirmed by a Hamas source, showed seven men dragged into a crowd, forced to their knees, and shot from behind in Gaza City. The move underscores the “daunting hurdles” facing efforts to move Trump’s ceasefire plan toward a longer-term resolution.

The DSA declaration titled “Until Palestinian Liberation” came days after Israel and Hamas agreed to halt fighting and begin exchanging hostages and prisoners under a US- and Arab-brokered deal. Ever since President Donald Trump brokered the historic ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the left has predictably tried to rewrite history. Instead of acknowledging Trump’s success, they’ve either praised the deal without giving him credit or tried desperately to hand the credit to someone else—namely, former President Joe Biden. Biden’s former Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, previously claimed the Trump-brokered ceasefire “builds on a post-conflict framework developed under the Biden administration.” The spin is almost comical: (Snip) On Monday, Biden issued a statement on the release of hostages in Gaza, framing it as a crowning achievement of his administration.
