Secretary of War Pete Hegseth kicked off a brief firestorm Friday during a press conference with the Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. While engaged in mutual backslapping over defense cooperation, Hegseth praised the Qatari role in brokering the ongoing cease-fire/peace agreement between Israel and Hamas, which was only possible after Israel blew up Hamas's leadership, which was in luxury accommodations in Doha. And he announced the opening of a training facility for Qatari pilots at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho.

If your country buys US aircraft, you can buy training along with the aircraft.
Nothing new or unusual here, except for the Enemedia trying to harm Trump.

They can get their training in Qatar, or some other country. They dont need to be here. I'm starting to like Hegseth as Secretary of War about as much as I liked him as a news reader.

This is the part of the deal we see. What we are not seeing is the pressure brought on Qatar to twist Hamas’ arm to accept the deal. PDT is not playing checkers but three dimensional chess.

FTA -"No one other than President Trump could have achieved the peace that we believe will be a lasting peace in Gaza and Qatar played a substantial role from the beginning,"
May I point out that when Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill worked out a peace agreement (for what it was) the Nazis did not have a place at the negotiating table. They were evil, they started the war and they lost.
Why in hell does Hamas play any role in this peace deal?!?!
These monsters use their children to protect their weapons! Hamas should have been completely wiped off the face of humanity before we started talking peace with Palestinians. They started this war just like the Nazis. They lost and they should be treated as such.
No thank you Qatar!
I'm sorry, but I think this deal, whatever it may be, will blow up in this world's face. This will never last.

I don't like this either but I still trust President Trump. He's no fool. Besides, what that old saying, keep your friends close and your enemies closer? Or something like that. Lets wait and see how this plays out.

I guess those talking bad about this deal were unaware that we have been training Saudi pilots for years at McDill AFB and that we have been having joint military training with their military in the US for at least 50 years. I myself saw Saudi Military officers in San Antonio TX when I was stationed there in the mid 1970's. We also train Singapore AF pilots at the same base in Idaho as they also purchase F15s from the US. This is no big deal.

Lived and worked in the Middle East for over 10 years: Basic concepts around which the Arab Islamic world revolve - (1) The enemy of my enemy is my friend. (2) The "golden rule" in that part of the world is to avoid shame at all cost - lying may be required to maintain this "rule" which isn't forbidden by Allah. (3) In the end Allah is responsible for all things so if things go wrong it is Allah's fault / will hence "Inshallah". Qatar is a very small player in a very dangerous part of the world. By (at least temporarily) tying its future to Trump and the US at this time it has gained substantial "honor" which could be at risk and indicate "shame" if it stabs the US in the back. Those who would overthrow it now find themselves in a position where the US would support Qatar if unfriendly forces decided to get rid of the current regime in Qatar. Going forward all Middle Eastern governments will try an emulate Qatar to get on the US's good side - it has become obvious that China and Russia don't currently have the muscle to stand up to the US. Downside for the US now that the US has access to airfields and ports in that part of the world beyond Saudi Arabi (a very smart idea "just in case") - all I can think of could be easily taken care of by putting some type of shut off switches in any planes we sell them so they could be easily disabled remotely if circumstances warranted. My 2 bits worth from an "ex" expat.

They signed a deal to buy 34 F-15's in 2017, they will be taking delivery of them HERE, as well as training maintenance personell so that they will be ready when Qatar can build their own similar/matching facilities THERE. Qatar is TINY, just training flights would involve them having to fly in other nations airspace or defensive zones. Israel, England, Germany, France, Singapore, Thailand, the Netherlands and the Saudi's ALL have facilities on US Air Bases, Singapore's are at Mountain Home as well. The F15 was designed in 1969, first flew in '72, entered service in '76, was sold to numerous other nations over the last FIFTY YEARS...No F15 has ever lost in a dogfight.

Singapore also has training field access in Australia....their base there is Six TIMES as large as the country of Singapore itself.
Mountain Home training base is 7,400sq/mi....The entire nation of Qatar is 4,400 sq/mi

When the new Qatari pilots assist in the bombing of Iran in the near future, naysayers will see the wisdom of this training. Training them in fifty-year-old jet fighters poses absolutely no threat to the US or any of our allies.
