MAGA Melts Down Over Trump Giving Qatar
a Military Base in U.S.

The Trump administration’s approval of a Qatari air force base in Idaho isn’t popular with either of America’s political parties. Department of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the forthcoming Qatari Emiri Air Force facility in America’s heartland Friday morning, thanking the Middle Eastern nation for playing a “core part” in negotiating the ceasefire between Israel and Palestine. Mountain Home Air Force Base will host Qatari F-15 fighter jets and pilots, and allow Qatari forces alongside American troops for F-15 pilot training. The move, which stands in stark contrast to the president’s “America first” agenda, seriously rattled some of Donald Trump’s most outspoken supporters. “Never thought I’d see Republicans give terror financing Muslims

I'm not melting and it is certainly grab my attention, but I'm with 5. President Trump has earned the right to be heard first. It may be that the media outlets have blocked him, or that there is an acceptable reason for it. Clearly, he would know this would provoke this kind of response and would want to get out in front of it.

I've been posting since Kilinoon's second run at Pres. I cant' see any reason for this. It sounds very much like a bribe to keep Qatar on board with a peace settlement. Did this stupid giveaway include them throwing the Hamass billionaire leaders out of their country? I thought not. Kick Qatar to the Gatar.

I've been here since late 1999, and while not melting down, I am very concerned. What is with American politicians wanting those Moslem troglodytes here? In what way do they benefit our society or culture in any way? They will metastasize in Idaho just like they have done everywhere else they've been defecated out. And the more that cancer spreads the harder it will be to remove.

I do not know why this is a problem. We already have Singapore at Mountain Home AFB training in the F-15. Although Qatar has had a hand in terrorism, they are running the fine line all Muslim nations run between appeasing the Islamist hordes and progress. It seems they may be choosing moderation AND most of this deal was already done by the auto pen administration.

I am not melting down. President Trump has determined that our country needs to hedge its bets in the Middle East. We have Israel as a strong ally. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Jordan, have been useful in pursuing mutual goals. Why not coax Qatar into that fold? As the article says Singapore also has a training base here in our country. Trump seems to be moving from "Israel is everything" or "Israel is nothing," as espoused by the last two Democrat presidents, towards a Middle East comprised of Israel and the functioning Arab lands finally coexisting, if not in love but at least in peace. Mark Levin is absolutely livid about this and he may be right, although his judgement is compromised by his almost personal hatred of Qatar, similar to his hatred of Putin. I trust our president to see the big picture unclouded by personal animus.

From a CBS article: "Later Friday, Hegseth clarified that Qatar would not have its own base in the U.S., writing on X: "The U.S. military has a long-standing partnership w/ Qatar, including today's announced cooperation w/ F-15QA aircraft. However, to be clear, Qatar will not have their own base in the United States-nor anything like a base. We control the existing base, like we do with all partners."

New Republic article is full of lies, half truths and endless slurs against Trump. We did NOT give them a base. They will have some of their training aircraft at a US base, and train there. Common practice for customers who buy US aircraft. A family member taught Iranian pilots under the Shah in US aircraft, part of the deal buying Phantoms and F-14s.

This indious interpretation of this story is getting way more traction than it deserves. The Qataris are not building a base here. It is an existing U.S. base that will stay a U.S. base and will be used to train their pilots on the equipment that we are selling them. This happens with US bases all over the world.

Notwithstanding the content of the article, which is disquieting to me, I'm grateful to #3 for asking something I've been thinking a lot about lately. I've been posting here since November, 2000, when my father read my increasingly frantic emails about Al Gore"s attempted post-election coup and said "There's a web site you might want to visit." I've been here (with one self-imposed three year gap) ever since. As an old time L-Dotter, I've often wondered how many of us are left. #3, #4, #8, #11, #12, #13, and #18 are all well known and welcome screen names to me. I don't know how long #6 has been here, but we have much in common. And while he's not on this thread, I search and read everything Hazy posts because he writes so well. As a long-time L-Dotter, I'm well aware of the site rules against chatting, so I won't tell everyone above, and all those who have left or we have lost, how grateful I am for this site and the fellowship I've found here.

The New Republic spinning our "anger" is laughable (and I was here back in the days when we called Killary PIAPS and Chelsea "the spawn of Satan"); I'm not melting until I get an authoritative source explain why I need to. The Qataris don't have an airforce, which is why they built us a base a while ago. If all we're doing is allowing them to set up a training facility and train with our people, what is the issue. Don't let the libs and NR (house journal of the GOPe) tell us what to think.

The art of the deal. Trump is removing Qatar from the terrorist chessboard. Qatar may be more worried about Iran and would like to have a military that is good enough to stop them. Perhaps Qatar, like other Arab countries has finally determined that Hamas creates more problems than they solve. We shall see.

#3 & Co, while I think everything Trump has done so far is outstanding, I have a really bad feeling about this Qatar thing. I hope I'm wrong, so yes, I'm "melting down" over it. History has shown that deals with Arabs and Muslims are iffy at best, but to have a military Arab/Muslim entity on our own soil is jarring. Whose idea was this? If Hegseth, hmmm, not as much confidence as I'd have if it were Trump's idea.

I'm going with "consider the source" here. I see that Ellie Quinlan Houghtaling is an associate writer covering breaking news at The New Republic. Her work has also appeared in The Daily Beast, The Guardian, Gothamist and The Real Deal. Trump has done this country a world of good. However, there is nothing wrong with doubting Trump's judgement on this site. We are critical thinkers, no lemmings. This is nothing new. As a young Armor Captain, detailed to the Foreign Liaison Office at Ft Knox, while waiting, for my course to start, I was tasked with greeting foreign officers and their families at the airport, transporting them to Ft Knox and getting them settled in. There were Jordanians, Saudies, Qataris (including the crown prince), Egyptians, Greeks, Pakistanis, and Norwegians, among others, in my class alone. And this was back in 1980.

The money shot from the article: “The freak out around this is of course totally unwarranted since this is actually a pretty common practice with countries that buy and operate a lot of U.S. military aircraft. Singapore has a similar facility and detachment for its F-15 training unit at this very same airbase,” Caldwell said. We have this arrangement with about a dozen countries including Italy, Germany, Sweden and Japan. But the people writing the article forgot to include that.

Very misleading article. Back in the 50s, there were Italians in my USAF pilot training class; in the early 70s we trained student pilots from South Vietnam, Iran, Turkey, Venezuela, and Denmark; and in the early 90s we trained German F-4 pilots. All of this training took place on active USAF bases. BTW, the F-15 is a jet fighter NOT a "fighter jet." Better yet, just call it a fighter; I don't think there are any more non-jet fighters around these days.

No sense getting discombobulated over what will be a training base for Qatari Air Force pilots learning to fly the F-15 fighter aircraft that Qatar purchased from the USA. The German Air Force also has such a training base at a base in West Texas. Years ago went I was in Nebraska I remember that there were about ten British Royal Air Force jet bombers and a couple of aerial tankers stationed at a base just South of Omaha.

They are training alongside Ameicans at Mountain Home AFB, an existing base which I had on my "dream sheet" in 1974. Maybe they'll have a small building for their students and some support personnel. Hardly any sort of "foothold". Besides which, The New Republic is a leftist rag rivaling "The Nation" and not quite a "Mother Jones". There's really not much to see here folks.

We believe Trump is doing this military agreement with Qatar here in Idaho because it is a reward in helping with the peace deal with the Israel Gaza settlement. We don't live very far from Mt. Home where this base is situated, so it's a bit un-nerving. However, close by we have new buildings of Meta from Mark Zuckerberg that we're not happy about. If I recall correctly, this site didn't achieve its current form as a predominately conservative news aggregation website until 2003. The longest running handle that I can remember from the early days is Dreadnaught, a trusted poster, who still contributes fairly regularly. On the Qatari issue, evidently Sec. Hegseth signed a 'letter of acceptance' yesterday, allowing the construction of a "Qatari air force facility" at the Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. So it is a "facility" requiring construction but not a separate "base." On Sept. 29, Trump issued an executive order guaranteeing the security and territorial integrity of Qatar. The order stated that any attack on Qatar would be considered a threat to U.S. national security and may be met with a U.S. military reprisal. He never issued an order like that on behalf of Israel, the object of Islamic warfare and terrorism against the civilian population since Israel's inception. Qatar has been cultivating Trump, and not the U.S. per se, at least since May, when they gave him a 747 for his new A.F. 1. I guess the problem of hostile foreign entities buying land near U.S. military bases has been addressed by openly installing them within an active U.S. military base. What could possibly go wrong having the military of an Islamic hereditary monarchy from a country whose legal system is based on Islamic law, building their own military facility located within a U.S.A.F. base, that is a part of our Air Combat Command?

I don't know the master plan, and neither does Ellie or many posters here, but I am more than happy with President Trumps second term so far, so I will see where this goes, and trust this administration to continue to upset new republic hacks and others. Meanwhile, I would really, really, like EVERYONE to get a clue and stop Chinese or Chinese proxies, from buying one square inch of land in the USA. THAT is worth getting upset about. BTW, been here so long, I remember when Luciannes son was still sane.

Christine Pelosi, daughter of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is officially entering politics. The Democratic Party activist and far-left attorney told KQED-TV Monday that she will run for San Francisco’s state Senate seat in 2028. Her announcement followed the passage of Proposition 50, a measure she campaigned for, which she said helped spark her decision to run. Because our rights are under attack, because having just come out [of] Prop. 50, organizing around the state with working families and swing voters and swing districts and reaching out across every corner of San Francisco, I know how excited and enthused people are to participate

Though California Gov. Gavin Newsom has emerged as the most vocal and visible potential 2028 Democrat presidential candidate, there are many others out there who continue to put out feelers and burnish their TDS creds, including Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker. Former Biden Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is also reportedly considering a presidential run, with an upcoming town hall he has scheduled in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on November 18th, only adding fuel to the speculation surrounding his future political ambitions. "Buttigieg, who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2020 and is considered a potential 2028 Democratic candidate, is characterizing the event

The Trump administration successfully pressed Nevada to work more closely with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other federal immigration authorities. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced on Monday that Nevada law enforcement has committed to cooperating with ICE to remove criminal illegal aliens in the state and would be removed from the Trump administration’s list of sanctuary jurisdictions. The declaration marks just the latest instance of a locality agreeing to better cooperate with federal immigration authorities amid mounting pressure from the White House.

The Supreme Court agreed Monday to hear a case challenging state laws that allow mail-in ballots received after Election Day to be counted. The case originated in Mississippi, where the Republican National Committee challenged a law allowing mail-in ballots that are received up to five business days after Election Day to be counted. The ballots must also be postmarked by the election’s date. The 5th U.S. Circuit of Appeals ruled in favor of the RNC last fall, deciding, “Federal law requires voters to take timely steps to vote by Election Day. And federal law does not permit the State of Mississippi to extend the period for voting by

After rejecting a $25 million deal with ICE, Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux claimed the partnership would bring “no value at all.” Comeaux defended his decision against partnering with ICE in a joint hearing of the Dallas Public Safety Committee and Government Efficiency Committee on November 6. As The Dallas Express reported, Comeaux recently rejected a $25 million partnership with ICE under the 287(g) program, which gives funding and immigration authority to local police. “Can you explain to me if there would be any value for us to be involved in this 287(g) program?” asked Councilman Bill Roth. “I see no value at all for us to be involved in this program,” Comeaux replied.

FBI Director Kash Patel’s use of a government jet, required by federal policy, is largely in line with that of his two immediate predecessors, but he has taken steps to save taxpayers significant money by avoiding commercial airports and their expensive landing fees when possible, according to flight logs reviewed by Just the News. Patel's travel has been the subject of a whisper campaign in Washington circles echoed by legacy news sites since he took office in late February, but the flight logs show he actually has flown the FBI jet slightly less often than ex-Director James Comey and slightly more than his immediate predecessor Christopher Wray.

When Sen. Elizabeth A. Warren recently traveled to the Big Apple to endorse New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, she was asked if overt socialism is really the best model for Democrats to adopt. “You bet,” she replied in her signature folksy style. The Boston lawmaker wasn’t just jumping on the sudden trendiness of socialism three-and-a-half decades after its near-extinction. With Senate fellow traveler Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Warren has been a catalyst for moving her party to the left since her first campaign in 2012. She and Sanders are, in many ways, the godparents of the self-avowed democratic socialists such as Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,

Thieves are stealing millions in cargo from American trucking companies every year, beleaguering an industry already reeling from a string of horrific highway crashes. A pair of highway truck crashes, caused by Indian nationals who entered the country unlawfully, sparked national outrage over trucking regulations and prompted the Trump administration to issue sweeping restrictions on commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) for illegal migrants. Trucking experts point to a combination of mass illegal immigration and lax vetting procedures as the recipe that not only attracted unqualified migrant truckers, but also a significant uptick in freight thefts. “The unprecedented influx of unvetted foreign individuals into our trucking industry has precipitated a national security crisis,”

California has the trendiest, and most foolish, energy policies in the U.S. The result is a return to the early ’70s, when drivers lined up around the block, hoping and praying the gasoline wouldn’t run out before they got to the pumps. “California’s oil industry now sits at the precipice of complete collapse,” says Edward Ring, director of water and energy policy at the California Policy Center, “and if that happens, more imports will not prevent lines at the pumps.” How could California, which has the sixth most proved crude reserves in the country, be looking over the edge of a gasoline crisis?

A disastrous shutdown for Democrats got worse Sunday when Senate Democrats folded on government funding while receiving nothing of substance in return. Eight Senate Democrats voted with 42 Republicans Sunday night on a procedural vote to allow a continuing resolution (CR) funding the government to advance. The motion passed 60 to 40, without a single vote to spare, and will enable a future vote on a clean continuing resolution through January 30, 2026, packaged with three relatively non-controversial appropriations bills extending through the fiscal year: agriculture, military construction-Veterans Affairs, and legislative branch.

Hochul, speaking during a press conference at the SOMOS political retreat in Puerto Rico on Saturday, argued she has already put vast sums of money into the perpetually cash-strapped MTA for major projects. “We’re spending a lot of money, so I cannot set forth a plan right now that takes money out of a system that relies on the fares of the buses and the subways,” she said.

The head of the BBC and the British broadcaster’s top news executive both resigned Sunday after criticism of the way the organization edited a speech by U.S. President Donald Trump. The BBC said Director-General Tim Davie and news CEO Deborah Turness had both decided to leave the corporation. Britain’s publicly funded national broadcaster has been criticized for editing a speech Trump made on Jan. 6, 2021, before protesters attacked the Capitol in Washington. Critics said the way the speech was edited for a BBC documentary last year was misleading and cut out a section where Trump said he wanted supporters to demonstrate peacefully.
