Pope Leo XIV continues to make thinly veiled jibes against the Trump administration’s stance against illegal immigration.
Speaking in front of thousands of pilgrims at St. Peter’s Square on Sunday, Leo warned that migrants must not be treated with “the coldness of indifference or the stigma of discrimination.”
Without singling out any country in particular, Leo said that Catholics should “open our arms and hearts to them, welcoming them as brothers and sisters, and being for them a presence of consolation and hope.”
Leo explained that the church was living through a “new missionary age” that tasked its members with providing “hospitality and welcome, compassion and solidarity” to migrants coming to the West.

We can have a new missionary age. Go help and preach to these people in their home countries. Open the Vatican treasury to help the poor and downtrodden of the world so that they don't have to migrate to new, unfamiliar places. Help them learn to be successful in their own country's and to respect the laws of other nations.

Chinese Christians and other sects brutalized for their faithfulness to the Gospel, the Vatican, Pope Francis and Leo. Harping on American Catholic church for not taking his view on borders etc. Accusing the US government for allowing the disappearance of 300K children I'm getting tired and angry that Leo has "picked a fight" with the USA Catholics. I hoped we would have had a true Pope after Francis. I think Leo is worse than Francis. Very disappointing.

Dittos #22. I had high hopes for Pope Leo but I’m glad I didn’t hold my breath.
We are all called to obey the laws of God and man. Illegally entering any country is not honoring the laws of man, so I don’t see how Pope Leo can call for us to enable illegal behavior.
He may occupy the office of Pope, but he certainly isn’t acting like one. PINO - Pope In Name Only.

One thing about being raised Southern Baptist; there is no living religious leader that speaks for me or instructs me on what political beliefs and actions I must follow to be a good Christian.
The center of my religion is not in Italy or even Israel; it is in my heart.

Pope Leo did not come out for open borders, and the author is covering up that gap in his argument by calling the Pope furtive. How is that for doubling down on bigotry for clicks. The Pope said to be kind and compassionate to migrants, which is pretty much of a consensus in the United States. The Pope did not aim that specifically at illegal migrants, nor call for open borders. ... Hey. If the Pope didn't say the dumb thing you want to say he said, then don't insist he really meant it but was too sly to say what you say he said,. Let alone in a headline. Slinging bigotry for clicks.

Remember the old days when Missionaries were brave souls who went into the heathen lands and preached their gospels to the natives?
Now Leo wants to bring the heathens into the civilized lands instead.
Of course His own little Nation-State-City, the Vatican is exempt from his demands for America, Europe etc.

The Pope should be urging people to obey reasonable longstanding law and respect the rights of others. Unfortunately very few are going to take him seriously amid cultural chaos and social disorder. As a Catholic I’m not surprised but just disappointed.

A Pope is only considered to be infallible when he is speaking about established Roman Catholic Church dogma, and not when he gives his opinion calling for the undermining of a sovereign country’s immigration or other laws. The Pope is not doing the US Catholic Church any good when he gives his opinion that is counter to about eighty percent of US citizens who favor the effective enforcement of the US immigration laws according to recent polls.
