Federal agents executing a search warrant at the downtown office of former National Security Adviser John Bolton in late August seized a cache of documents marked as classified, according to court documents. The office mission was the second such search conducted by the FBI following an early-morning raid at Bolton's home. The application for the warrant at his office, according to the filing, was to search for "evidence of a crime" and to locate potential "contraband, fruits of crime, or other items illegally possessed."

Sounds a lot like Hillary's unsecured email server wasn't the only careless use by high-ranking officials in DC
FTA:
The latest news comes amid revelations that a foreign entity hacked Bolton's AOL email account, although specifics remain under wraps. A New York Times report a week after the raids suggests the former NSA director is in deeper trouble than simply having used classified documents for his book.
The United States gathered data from an adversarial country’s spy service, including emails with sensitive information that Mr. Bolton, while still working in the first Trump administration, appeared to have sent to people close to him on an unclassified system, the people said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive case that remains open.
The intel community, in short, collected data from a hostile nation's intelligence service that showed Bolton sending classified U.S. intelligence to associates over a compromised unclassified system. Why does he have "people close to him" in a hostile nation? And why would he send "sensitive information" to them?
Will be interesting to see where this goes and whether he decides he might want to cooperate instead of dig in, but why did they Biden admin shut down the original investigation? And who specifically gave that directive?

Bolton was never the NSA director. He worked for the National Security Council which is a different organization.
There's nothing in the article that indicates people Bolton sent information to in the hostile country. It's much more likely that Bolton sent it either to people in the US or a friendly country . The email was surveilled by a hostile country and the surveillance was being watched by US authorities.

fta: "Both search warrant applications indicated FBI agents were seeking evidence related to three felony offenses," they write, "including gathering, transmitting, or losing national defense information in violation of the Espionage Act and retaining classified information without permission."
... .
NEW: Newly disclosed docs reveal more about the potentially classified information John Bolton may have had in his office. An FBI agent catalogued 5 categories — including WMDs and the UN.
Ouch!!!

Time for Mr. Bolton to go to prison. I handled classified information, WMD related, for over three decades, and never violated the rules. I was also aware that if I did, I would be subjected to imprisonment, but that wasn't the primary reason that I followed the rules - it was because I am a patriot and don't want our enemies to know our secrets.

Another traitorous puke that should come close to paying the ultimate price for his intentional criminal acts against the U.S. Constitution. Show no mercy. None.

Bolton is an arrogant jerk with an agenda that does NOT serve the American People. He deserves whatever happens to him.
After Trump got burned with "documents", that as President he had a right to, don't you think that anyone who had taken any classified documents would have cleaned house? How stupid do you have to be to leave them lying around? What a fool.

Within a day or two of the FBI's raid on Bolton, I read that he sent sensitive, classified information via email attachments to his family members. I assume he wanted to hang onto some of that info for future books or to enable him to be paid by big-money folks to share his insights drawn from examination of classified docs while he had been employed in the first Trump administration. That's no excuse, but I doubt the "people close to him" were foreign nationals or foreign governments. The truth is usually damning enough. No need to inflame the situation. Still, Bolton should pay a severe price.

Bolton used to be an intelligent man and then for some reason went off the rails. Maybe he just spent too much time around Hillary Clinton, who has done much worse. If anybody should be in jail...

Bolton’s going down and it’s well deserved. He has no friends left to save him.

I wonder if they'll make him shave his head in Federal prison... including his signature "walrus 'stache?"
Bolton will essentially be ruined, regardless of the outcome, and in the manner that the leftwing tried to destroy Donald Trump, all while the Walrus cheered from the sidelines.

This is all empty promises until the actual sentence. Maybe he will luck out and go to Kansas. (It is lovely this time of year according to Leavenworth Convention & Visitors Bureau.)

The most common question he'll soon be getting in Federal prison is whether he's related to the singer, Michael Bolton?
(movie reference: "Office Space")
