Traditionally, it’s called “the people’s house” because the House of Representatives is supposed to represent and reflect the people to whom the congressional members represent. Republicans in the House threatened to withhold votes if Speaker Mike Johnson did not pass an enhanced House Member Security Funding Bill that includes a payment of $25,000/month per lawmaker to hire their own private security. This is in addition to the pre-existing security packages the House members receive.
The monthly funds would be designated for use hiring private security when the representatives are not in Washington DC. It is the republican wing pushing this demand.

Any of them who voted against honoring Kirk should be disallowed from having the extra security.

Do the attendees of their townhalls also get $$ to hire private security for the day?

Let me guess. If they chose not to hire additional security, they can pocket the funds?
It was bad enough we had to pay for your "sexual harassment" fund. Pay for your own security like the rest of us, or simply pass a law allowing concealed carry in all parts of DC and buy a gun.

The whole point of the second amendment is to keep a tyrannical government in check.
A tyrannical government hiring a private army to protect themselves from such a check should never be allowed to happen. It is imperative for the nations survival, and future that the government fear the people.

I don't think anyone should work if they are frightened.
If these Congress Critters are so frightened they need a $25,000 dollar security for each of them, I believe they should quit and find a job where they are not so frightened. I believe they are entitled to feel safe and let someone else do the job who isn't so frightened.
By the way by my figures that would cost $130 million 500 thousand dollars.
Money tossed in the trash,
Why is it that Republicans have no balls?

The way some of these Dems have been shouting and carrying on lately while in session - I'm not sure they should be trusted with C & C. Having this extra security is as ridiculous as the barricade fence that stood around the Capitol for months. Let them drown in their Sea of Self-importance.

No. Being nervous might make them a little more honest. The more insulated they are from the public, the more they think they can get away with stuff. Let 'em worry like we do.

OK, I kind of get it, and why it is coming from the Repube side, since it is the Democrat side that is full of dangerous, violent lunatics that think it is fine to kill anyone with whom they disagree. But if they would hold their Democrat colleagues to a standard of not fomenting violence from their constituents, maybe they could save the taxpayers $300,000 a a year each.
Or, if they really need the security, get their taxpayer constituents back in their home states to vote to pay for it and make it a State or a District matter, and not chowing down more from the Federal taxpayer trough.
And I expect that if this passes, many of them will be hiring their boyfriends or brothers or cousins to be their body guards, like AOC and a few others have already done using Campaign Funds to pay for it.

Per month? Those useless congresscreatures, especially the RINOs, aren't worth 25 cents a month. Let them defend themselves like the rest of us have to.
