An immigration judge in Louisiana has ordered pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, a legal permanent resident of the U.S., deported to Syria or Algeria for failing to disclose certain information on his green card application, according to documents filed in federal court Wednesday by his lawyers. Khalil’s lawyers suggested in a filing that they intend to appeal the deportation order, but expressed concern that the appeal process will likely be swift and unfavorable. The order from the immigration judge, Jamee Comans, came despite a separate order in Khalil’s federal case in New Jersey blocking his deportation while that court considers Khalil’s legal argument

If he lied on his green card application, he has not been "a legal permanent resident of the U.S.".

There was a time when immigrants came here to live a new life, anxious to form anew life with freedom from « the storied pomp » they left behind. Perhaps that corner was turned when the US began to meddle in the affairs of other nations…yet I remain convinced that we as a nation do not need to have foreign wars brought to our shores. Khalil may have come here to study…but would not have approved if he came here to meddle. He has to leave? Good

Article gives overview of Khalil's previous legal status here in America but vaguely summarizes Trump's rationale for deportation as "when he applied for a green card, he failed to disclose all his past employment and membership in certain organizations." Sounds like some details there that are not nice.

The immigration authorities should play the late, great Roy Rogers’s signature song, “Happy Trails” as Mahmoud Khalil is escorted by ICE agents to his flight to Algiers, Algeria, where, coincidentally, my late father hit the beach there as a member of the US 34th Infantry Division on November 8, 1942, “only” 83 years ago. Somehow, I think that my father would have thought that he had helped to pave the way back for Mr. Khalil to return to that “charming” and “picturesque” third-world-country. 🐪🌴👳🏻‍♂️🙄

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a statement Thursday lambasting critics who believe Israel is linked to the assassination of Charlie Kirk. In the wake of Kirk’s death, several prominent commentators have baselessly insinuated that Kirk’s evolving views on Israel may have played a role in his assassination last week. “Somebody has fabricated a monstrous big lie – that Israel had something to do with Charlie Kirk’s horrific murder,” Netanyahu said in a video posted on social media.

We need to learn more about Tyler Robinson, the alleged assassin of Charlie Kirk, but based on what we know so far he represents the polar opposite of Kirk in every important respect. The young man with the transgender boyfriend shot the young man with the wife and two kids. The guy with a reported interest in “furries” killed the guy with an interest in spreading the Gospel. The believer in gender fluidity murdered the believer in traditional gender roles. In cultural terms, it was aberrant versus normal

A dozen or so years ago, the magazine rack at your grocery store was your cheat code for popular culture: The covers revealed EXACTLY where we were as a country. After all, magazine editors chose their covers to maximize sales. Which meant that the cover photos (and cover stories) were kind of like mini billboards, advertising whatever content was most meaningful to their target audience. For marketers and/or propagandists, it provided invaluable insight. But no longer. Today, paper-and-ink magazines are deader than the dodo. They’re the equivalent of vinyl records: Some people still swear by ‘em, but they’re no longer mainstream. Instead, we’ve gotta look at digital headlines.
