Despite the media hysteria, President Donald Trump’s counterrevolution remains on course. Its ultimate fate will probably rest with the state of the economy by the November 2026 midterm elections. But its success also hinges on accomplishing what is right and long overdue — and then making such reforms quietly, compassionately and methodically. No country can long endure without sovereignty and security — or with 10 million to 12 million illegal immigrants crossing the border and half a million criminal foreign nationals roaming freely.

FTA: "The American people signed on for symmetry, fairness and reciprocity in trade, not tariffing those who run deficits with us or seeing high tariffs as a cash cow to fund our out-of-control government." Key point. Negotiating firmly for lower tariff barriers is a good thing, but treating everyone who runs a trade surplus with you as an unfair trader is neither sound nor fair. I've been running a trade deficit with the Coca-Cola company for several years now. They don't buy anything from me, but what they sell me is worth the money I pay for it. Meanwhile, I sell my services to others I don't buy from, and (hopefully) no one feels cheated. The problem the US faces right now is it's not even close to even across the board. That US trade deficits are unsustainable is clear, but taxing imports is at best a stop gap measure. Hopefully, President Trump's energizing of the energy sector will help restore some balance by exporting more what the world wants and needs from us. In the meantime, dialing back some of the rhetoric would also mitigate some of the harm to US exporters trying to sell into other countries already.

VDH clearly disapproves of PDJT's having bragged sbout the tariff revenues. I don't believe any undeserving country is being hurt. And it is not his style to keep qiuiet about what he sees as victories. He's fine, VDH.

Sometimes Trump's marketing personna comes out and he sounds like he is bragging but he is being nothing but fair and honest. When you have a winning poker hand, you don't throw in the cards or share the pot. The world is reluctantly accepting that and the only ones who are hurting are our democrat lunatic fringe because they are losing their grip.

I am where #6 is. This business that Donald Trump has to shut up, cool it, dial it back is baffling. The media has (non-stop) been smearing him since he decided to run in 2016. They have made stuff up along the way, too. All these posters who say he should do this or do that, I have to wonder how the posters would have handled it? Donald Trump is a New Yorker at heart. Need I say more?

Steady as she goes Mr. President. The direction is a good one. However, for example Japan will never give US fair trade on cars, beef or rice, so we need to change that. VDH is an invaluable chronicler of our times.

#11, I wasn't sure either so I checked. (You are right. Sowell is brilliant by the way.) here's what I found so far: https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/legendary-economist-says-trumps-tariffs-could-replay-devastating-history I think Sowell's position is a little bit more measured than the Fox headline says. He's saying what many of us are thinking: if it leads to lower tariffs and more trade, great. If it's the new protectionism, then not so great.

The Israeli government says that it will carry out the operation if Hamas does not agree to a hostage deal by the end of the forthcoming visit of President Donald Trump to the region, which will be from May 13 to 16.Military analysts describe “Gideon’s Chariots” as a classic “clear, hold, build” strategy to root out Hamas and create new, credible, demilitarized civilian authorities to govern the Palestinian communities in Gaza.Israel plans to use military pressure to rescue the remaining hostages in a new way: not by pressuring Hamas leadership, which has been unwilling to compromise, but to isolate Hamas cells that are holding captives.

Our southernmost continent is, we’ve been told, the suffocating canary in the global coal mine. The more ice loss in Antarctica, the greater trouble we’re in. So what do we make of a study which found that between 2021 and 2023, there was a record-breaking increase in the Antarctic Ice Sheet? We mark it down as another in a long line of misses from the global warming zealots. “Notably, four major glaciers in the Wilkes Land–Queen Mary Land region of East Antarctica reversed their previous pattern of accelerated mass loss from 2011 to 2020 and instead showed significant mass gain during the 2021 to 2023 period,”

The City Park’s Foundation, a taxpayer-funded organization, canceled the Summer Stage benefit concert, which was billed as “PRIDE WITH KEHLANI,” after intense fallout from the announcement, sources said. The move comes just hours after the Adams administration sent a letter to the foundation, which was obtained by The Post, threatening to pull the licenses for all of the summer series’ shows over the concert.

A newly released intelligence assessment has found that some Venezuelan government officials “facilitated” the illegal migration of members of the brutal Venezuelan criminal gang Tren De Aragua into the United States “to advance what they see as the Maduro regime’s goal of destabilizing governments and undermining public safety.” However, while Venezuela’s “permissive environment enables TDA to operate… the Maduro regime probably is not systematically directing Venezuelan outflows, such as to sow chaos in receiving countries,” says the April memo from the National Intelligence Council, released Monday by the ODNI.

common talking point trotted out to defend congressional Republicans’ failure to advance conservative priorities is that the party has slim majorities, and therefore, trying to pass anything outside of the usual “uniparty” slop is next to impossible. But if that’s true, why does the same dynamic exist in states where Republicans have much larger legislative majorities and control the governor’s mansion? On Wednesday, the GOP-controlled Texas House — which is run by liberal Republican Speaker Dustin Burrows — passed a bill that effectively seeks to criminalize the posting and distribution of certain altered media in political advertising.

As President Trump brings manufacturing back to the US — and closes in on trade deals with India, Japan, and South Korea — China’s days as “the world’s factory floor” are numbered. And Beijing is furious. In a move harking back to the Cultural Revolution, Chinese schoolchildren are again being taught to hate the US. Class time is devoted to shouting anti-American slogans like “China must win the China-US trade war!” China’s foreign ministry even released a video claiming that China “won’t kneel down” to the US, warning that bowing to US hegemony would be like drinking poison.

President Trump’s landslide victory last November was made possible in no small part by his vision of a new economic Golden Age. For far too long, Americans have been getting ripped off — and Trump is just the man to make it stop. But he will need the entire federal government to bring about this result. Every agency must do its part to repair the damage from four years of the Biden-Harris administration — as well as decades of swamp politicians who got rich while many Americans were left behind. The Federal Trade Commission is leading the way. In the last few weeks,
