AOC did not grow up working class. Her father was an architect in wealthy Westchester County NY with his own office. That is Professional Class not working class. AOC graduated from Boston University and briefly worked as a bartender where she stole tips from her co-workers. She tried to start her own business which is also not working class. I am sick of this narrative that tries to make her out as someone who is working class.

California's beleaguered pot industry was given another piece of bad news Thursday afternoon: The state cannabis tax rate will increase from 15% to 19% on July 1, the highest allowed by state law. The 26% change, devised by Gov. Gavin Newsom, is ironically being made precisely because the state's legal industry is floundering while the illicit market thrives. (Snip) Jerred Kiloh, the president of the United Cannabis Business Association, said the tax increase will only make it harder for legal stores to offer cannabis at a price point that competes with illegal stores. "More businesses will close sooner as the

A Democratic lawmaker's decision to skip a key vote on Donald Trump's new tariffs has sparked backlash from other Democrats. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse missed the vote to rebuke Trump's global tariffs on Wednesday, which ended in a 49-49 tie, before Vice President JD Vance traveled to Capitol Hill to cast a tiebreaking vote against the resolution. Even if it did pass the Senate, the House wasn't expected to take up the resolution after Republicans passed a rule that specifically blocks this type of resolution until the end of September. Trump would also likely have vetoed the resolution if it reached

WASHINGTON – Since the pandemic, federal student loan borrowers have been mostly protected from the harshest consequences of not paying back their loans. That's about to change, and quickly. Linda McMahon, the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, said the federal government will resume involuntary collections for borrowers in default on May 5. In two weeks, loan holders will start the process of taking money from the paychecks of borrowers who've missed their payments for 270 days or more. They'll also start moving to collect from other federal payments, including tax refunds and Social Security benefits. The change, which McMahon
