A popular street food vendor who serves free meals to the homeless on L.A.’s Skid Row was brutally beaten by a suspect who remains at large. Chris Bailey, known on TikTok as @kloverkinglosangeles, can typically be seen on the busy streets of downtown Los Angeles cooking on his food cart and offering meals to those who stop by. On April 22, around noontime, Bailey had set up his station near 1st Street and Grand Avenue when he was approached by a stranger and violently beaten in broad daylight. “I was packing up, putting my stuff back in my car and

Expecting drug addled, mentally ill bums to act like normal human beings is a vain hope. These people need to be locked away were they won't trash the streets, harm themselves and hurt ordinary people.

#1 Or the frog and the scorpion. I volunteered thirty years ago at a homeless shelter. I promptly came to realize almost all are insane, drug addicted, and generally homeless by choice. In the course of a year, I had exactly one family unit (mom and kids) fleeing abusive father) that was involuntarily homeless. Husband was a piece of work who showed up the shelter (after she was gone) breaking things and threatening employees, even showing up at board members' homes. She was employed, in a home, and kids in school in a week, never to need our help again. He was arrested. She sent us $1,000 about three months later.

RE #3, thank you for the first hand verification of what I have seen and been told by others. The root problem of "the homeless" seems to be the near closure of our mental institutions. We used to keep the mentally ill in locked facilities where they were less likely to harm themselves and massively less likely to harm ordinary, sane citizens. Now they roam the streets, taking random street drugs which probably make their mental problems even worse, making a mess with their trash and feces everywhere. Basically, open air mental institutions on public streets. How is this better than housing them in mental institutions? It is not better and I am pretty damned sure it is NOT less expensive. Not good for these people or for society to permit this.

When a person is going in the wrong direction the last thing they need is more fuel. Giving handouts to homeless and addicts is giving them more fuel. They need to be held to account and treatment. Chris Bailey by giving handouts precludes others from escaping from where he was by making street vending uneconomical. Additionally, street vending makes many restaurants unprofitable thus eliminating menial jobs such as janitors and dishwashers that would have helped many out of hopelessness.

SAN FRANCISCO — Another major retailer in San Francisco’s Union Square is closing next month. Saks Fifth Avenue is closing its downtown store at 384 Post St., a Saks Global spokesperson said in a statement. The retailer cited the decision to close as one to “focus on long-term growth.” The store’s last day will be on Saturday, May 10. Saks says customers can visit its sister company store, Neiman Marcus, about two blocks away on Stockton Street. The two companies are both subsidiaries of Saks Global. While we saw meaningful engagement and success through the appointment-only format, we have made

Political parties need votes from people, and voters do not like being murdered or seeing their countrymen killed. So you would expect all politicians to take their side on least on this. But when it comes to Democrats, you’d be wrong about that. (Snip) Democrats have long been wandering down this path, but now they seem to be running down it. And when you watch the latest chapter of this saga — the love affair between Democratic politicians and MS-13 gangsters — you almost can’t avoid asking what the political left has against our country, and why it is so

WASHINGTON – Since the pandemic, federal student loan borrowers have been mostly protected from the harshest consequences of not paying back their loans. That's about to change, and quickly. Linda McMahon, the secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, said the federal government will resume involuntary collections for borrowers in default on May 5. In two weeks, loan holders will start the process of taking money from the paychecks of borrowers who've missed their payments for 270 days or more. They'll also start moving to collect from other federal payments, including tax refunds and Social Security benefits. The change, which McMahon

Democrats’ panic over what they stand for and whether they can credibly compete beyond the bluest states is already erupting in the rush to recruit Senate candidates across the country for next year — a desperate effort to dig out from years of losses that have them far from power at a moment they need it most. Will Democrats, indeed, compete everywhere in 2026? Will leaders allocate money even in tough races, or will they consolidate conservatively around their best bets? How will they handle what could be candidates who range from being aligned with Bernie Sanders to occasionally voting

From 2018 to 2024, the unhoused population in Los Angeles has grown by 44.6% from 31,285 to 45,252 individuals, according to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority. When now-Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson stated in her confirmation hearing that she couldn't define what a "woman" is, that probably should have been treated as a bit of a red flag. That would have required the Senate to have any sense of shame, though, and we all know that's long been in short supply. Since joining the Supreme Court, Jackson has become perhaps the most reliable left-wing vote on the court. There is no level of partisanship she won't stoop to in order to defend a Democrat viewpoint, and that was on display again in recent oral arguments surrounding parental rights.

Conservative Christians have flooded social media with support for Cardinal Robert Sarah to succeed the late Pope Francis because of his strong traditionalist stands on sexuality and church doctrine as well as his opposition to mass immigration and Islamism. Why It Matters The rising profile of the African cardinal, 79, comes at a time of ideological division within Catholicism, as the Church grapples with questions of modernity, sexual identity, and religious pluralism, and also as more right wing political movements in Europe and elsewhere have challenged what they see as the orthodoxy of a liberal global elite.
