New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) has declared a state of emergency for Albuquerque, ordering the National Guard to help combat crime in the state’s largest city. “The safety of New Mexicans is my top priority,” Lujan Grisham said in a statement. “This partnership represents our commitment to addressing the fentanyl crisis and juvenile crime with every resource at our disposal.” Lujan Grisham, a former member of Congress who is term limited, said the New Mexico National Guard will assist Albuquerque police with essential duties so the city’s law enforcement officers “can focus on what they do best — keeping our communities safe.”

I live in a small city in North Georgia. Back in September of last year, there was a shootout in one of our suburbs over a drug deal. Five dead, five! All Hispanic and a 16-year-old held for felony murder. No word on if they were illegals. The local media covered it, but nothing in the MSM. Publicizing horrible crimes like this don't fit the open borders narrative they push.

Yep. Too many illegals and too much coke and fentanyl. During my college days in the early 1970s, Albuq. was safe as a SW city could be.

Copied from USCIS Guide: In New Mexico, the cities of Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces, and Taos are designated as sanctuary cities. These cities have policies in place to protect immigrants from federal immigration enforcement. Specifically, these policies limit local law enforcement’s cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). For example, they prohibit local law enforcement from inquiring about a person’s immigration status. Additionally, they limit the circumstances in which law enforcement can provide ICE with access to people in custody. Furthermore, they provide resources for immigrant communities. This includes providing legal assistance for those facing deportation proceedings...individuals cannot report immigration violations to local law enforcement agencies in sanctuary cities in New Mexico. Sanctuary cities in New Mexico have adopted policies to limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities which may include not responding to reports of immigration violations...local law enforcement officers in New Mexico may cooperate with federal immigration authorities if they choose to do so, even within a sanctuary city. New Mexico is not considered a sanctuary state, but it does have some laws in place that limit the extent of cooperation between local and federal immigration authorities. These laws, while allowing cooperation in some cases, also limit the ability of local law enforcement to inquire into immigration status or detain individuals solely on the basis of their immigration status.

We stopped overnight in Abq a couple of years ago, and then got breakfast the next AM. I was very glad to be legally armed walking from the car to the hotel room, in the room overnight and walking to the car the next morning. We found a slightly better looking part of town to get breakfast, but, again, happy to have means to defend us. Abq is a far more dangerous town now than it was 30 year ago when my relatives lived there.

President Donald Trump’s tariff plan appears focused around a simple tenet for any manufacturer: Produce in the United States if you want unfettered access to U.S. markets. If that’s the demand of this moment, Hyundai Motor Group of South Korea looks in some ways like a brilliant strategist. Back in 2022, months before then-President Joe Biden approved credits for buying electric vehicles, and long before the sharp rise in tariffs that President Trump has announced recently, Hyundai signed the biggest economic development deal in Georgia’s history. This new $7.6 billion EV factory broke ground just over two years ago in a massive pine grove just west of Savannah, Georgia.

China announced countermeasures by raising tariffs on U.S. goods from 84% to 125% starting Saturday. The U.S. and China have escalated a new trade war by raising tariffs even as U.S. President Donald Trump hit a pause on tariffs for other countries. China notably had said it would fight the American tariffs with its own countermeasures, calling Trump’s actions “economic bullying,” which led Trump to retaliate by continuously hiking up tariffs this week. Trump’s universal tariffs on China total 145%. When Trump announced Wednesday that China faced 125% tariffs, he did not include a 20% tariff on China tied to its role in fentanyl production.
