Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has fired a senior US officer assigned to NATO, the Pentagon announced Tuesday, saying her removal was due to a loss of confidence in her ability to lead. Vice Admiral Shoshana Chatfield is the latest in a string of top officers to be dismissed by Donald Trump’s administration, part of a rare major shakeup of senior US military leadership since the president returned to office in January. Hegseth removed Chatfield “from her position as US representative to NATO’s military committee due to a loss of confidence in her ability to lead,

"The traditionally apolitical US military" - what a totally laughable statement! We have never had a greater phalanx of politicized generals than we do now. Used to be that a soldier got promoted to general for leading troops to victory like Grant or being a great strategic planner like Ike, but that's not how promotions are earned these days. No, promotions are gotten by how well one can kiss politicians' butts, which requires pledging allegiance to the political philosophy of the appointing politicians. That's how we got saddled with incompetents like Lloyd Affirmative Action, Mark "Our Gal" Milley, and the rest of the lacy panty brigade at the Pentagon, who were all too willing to push DEI and social justice and such at the expense of military strength and readiness in order to garner another star on their lapel. It's about time we started cleaning house and restoring real soldiers to the ranks of our military leadership.

#6 is right on the money, but at the same time we shouldn't forget that the military has to do what the president wants. If he says to do the silly DEI thing, you gotta do it. Orders is orders. I hope they arent purging the ranks of people who were just doing their duty.

I read a disturbing story yesterday about officers against the Trump Admin. See:https://legalinsurrection.com/2025/04/u-s-military-opposition-to-the-trump-administration-a-matter-of-concern/ FTA: "There is an enormous problem in our nation’s military, one that I have not seen discussed in depth elsewhere. I have heard from multiple sources that many active duty officers openly and deeply despise the Trump Administration, and they are not at all shy about expressing their opinion both in and out of uniform. One active duty major I know estimates that it’s 1 in 4 who have this problem…"

She became a Helo driver after Boston Univ(bachelors in International policy/French), Harvard(masters in public administration) San Diego(Doctorate in Education, a Dr Jill degree) Her only overseas postings were Guam and the Marianas...Never Europe/NATO region. She was an asst. Professor of Poli-Sci at the AF academy from 2001-04 TRump appointed her the 1st female president of the Naval War College in 2019... An academic in charge of an Academy. Biden then put her in charge of NATO, Dec 2023, in the midst of a major War with Russia. Trump/Hegspeth recognized she was NOT the best available individual for that post. Likely NO Naval Officer is, certainly not one with only Pacific, rescue chopper, experience. The current NATO requirement is better suited to either experienced Air Force, Armor/artillery, or Missile commanders.(with some background in Intelligence as well)

Only commands were a helo squadron, then "Joint Region Mariannas", HQ'd in Guam.... a bunch of islands in the middle of nowhere, of minor consequence 99% of the time. Then led the US War College. Then made Vice Admiral by Traitor Joe and sent to NATO. Ridiculous. A family member was a far lower NATO officer, Deputy Commander of Southern Europe, and had two fighter squadron commands, an aircraft carrier and an aircraft carrier group prior. She was WAY over her experience level, because she's female.

Just like any other team, if you are not a team player you don't get to play. If you don't get with the program, you get cut. Women in the military are equal to the men. They can get cut along with everyone else.

The 2024 presidential election is just five months in the rearview, but the country is already trudging toward the 2026 midterms — at least at the annual Pennsylvania Leadership Conference. In a straw poll of 267 conference participants from eight states, including Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania state Treasurer Stacy Garrity was the clear favorite to win the Republican primary for its 2026 gubernatorial election. She received 41% of the vote, as Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Penn., came in a distant second at 9%. While 2026 is still long down the road, and neither Pennsylvania politician has formally announced a run, both Republicans embraced the opportunity to tease their potential bids.

This was the first drop in consumer prices in nearly three years and only the second decline since inflation accelerated under Joe Biden to the worst rates in decades. The consumer price index fell by 0.1 percent compared with the previous month after climbing each month since July 2022. Economists had forecast prices would rise by 0.1 percent.

In one absurd case, a person whose birthday was listed in the year 2154 claimed $41,000, according to an X post by the department.

Chinese producers of plastic Christmas trees and other festive decorations say orders from U.S. clients, which are crucial for their business, should have started to come in by now. But because of surging import tariffs, they haven't. U.S. President Donald Trump has raised tariffs on Chinese imports by 104% so far this year in an escalating trade war that threatens great pain for the world's largest exporter of manufactured goods. U.S. retailers are almost completely reliant on China for Christmas decorations, where they source 87% of such goods - worth roughly $4 billion. Chinese factories are also heavily dependent on the U.S. market, where they sell half of what they make.
