The Supreme Court of the United States lifted a block from U.S. District Judges James Boasberg, which prevented the Trump administration from deporting suspected illegal alien gang members under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. [Snip] Per the outlet, in a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court justices found that “the migrants had improperly challenged their deportations in Washington, D.C.,” when they should have challenged them in Texas, “where they were being held”:

Comments:

The Court also found the only vehicle for review is a petition for a writ of habeas corpus, in which the petitioner bears the burden of proof in showing that his incarceration is unlawful. There is no automatic right of appeal from a denial of the writ.

Well that's big of them. Allowing a president to be president. I think Trump has the goods on a lot of people. Sometimes it's necessary.

I'm confused. 4 out of 9 Supreme Court justices can't agree with the majority that Washington DC is the wrong venue to sue for relief?? Do they even know the law?? Seems to me they all took the easy way out and didn't rule on the question of whether or not the President can use the 1798 law for deportations.

Dems and the American Civil Liberties Union will always try and forum-shop their venues to D.C., where juries and jurists are overwhelmingly lefties. Nice to see that the Supremes are saying they need to bring this case in Texas. Boasberg is a shady lefty judge. Many complaints over his judgments and orders that are often less than transparent in significant political cases. He's a member of the "Inns of Court" club in D.C., where he rubs shoulders with fellow member Chief Justice Roberts.

Narrow decision at 5-4. Is it wrong to wish that a couple of the fat little Penguins vacate their positions for some reason other than retirement? These people are supposed to be defenders of the Constitution.

The US Homeland Security secretary has said states need the power to shoot down drones following criticisms of the government’s response to sightings across the East Coast. Alejandro Mayorkas made the comments after state officials in New York and New Jersey said that Joe Biden’s administration had failed to get a grip on the issue. [Snip] State and local law enforcement agencies do not have the power to counter drone technology. Only a select number of agencies under the Department of Homeland Security, such as the US Secret Service, are authorized to take action.

In Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “OutFront,” Belleville, NJ Mayor Michael Melham stated that the drones around the state have to be taken down and stated that there were briefings “that we’ve had Coast Guard working with our New Jersey State Police, our helicopters have seen them. We asked, well, when they go out to sea, are we going to shoot them down?” And they were told the drones wouldn’t be taken down due to fears of what might be on them.

Ukraine has fired British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles into Russia for the first time. Fragments of the bunker-busting rockets were found in the village of Marine, Kursk on Wednesday. [Snip] Up to 12 missiles were launched by a Ukrainian aircraft, according to reports. Britain's Storm Shadow missiles are a nightmare for enemies as they are capable of dodging air defences. The £800,000 weapons - which were already being fired within Ukraine - use GPS to precisely hit targets, and can travel at 600mph. A clip shared online recorded the sound of several missiles flying toward the Kursk region.

The federal judge who blocked the Trump administration's use of a 1798 wartime law to immediately deport Venezuelan nationals canceled a planned Tuesday court hearing to review the case after the Supreme Court handed a win to the president. In a minute order published Tuesday morning, U.S. District Judge James Boasberg announced that the previously scheduled Tuesday afternoon hearing would be vacated in light of the high court's ruling, which determined, among other things, that the "appropriate venue for such proceedings is the Southern District of Texas," or wherever plaintiffs that are subject to potential removal are currently being held.

A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the White House to restore the Associated Press’s access to presidential events, saying that the decision to impose limitations violated the news organization’s free speech rights. McFadden ordered the White House to restore the AP’s access to the Oval Office, Air Force One, “and other limited spaces when such spaces are made open to other members of the White House press pool.”

WASHINGTON — The White House warned Monday that President Trump would veto a bipartisan bill that would mandate congressional approval of all tariffs should it arrive on his desk. Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) said the measure introduced last week by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) “would severely constrain the President’s ability to use authorities long recognized by Congress and upheld by the courts to respond to national emergencies and foreign threats.” The Trade Review Act also “eliminates leverage over foreign trading partners, inhibits reshoring and supply chain resilience, fosters market uncertainty, and introduces procedural micromanagement,” the OMB Statement of Administration Policy added.
