Last week, the House was brought to a standstill over a discharge petition on proxy voting, though President Donald Trump weighed in on the matter just days later, prompting Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) and Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to figure out a plan. Although Trump said he was in favor of proxy voting for new parents, he also indicated it was up to the speaker. On Friday morning, in a post that began by thanking Trump for his "leadership," also acknowledging how the president relegated the decision-making to him, Johnson warned about how "Democrats tried proxy voting before and it was terribly abused,"

Another empty article from Townhall. It entices us with the headline, tells us that a compromise has been reached - utilizing a policy from the 1800s, but doesn't bother to research just what that policy was or how it was implemented. Sheesh! I get frustrated with myself for yet again, getting "hoovered" in..

Luna disrupted the works for at least a week over this. And it was very personal. Johnson and Luna have battled for months over the Florida congresswoman’s push to allow proxy for parents of newborns – an effort that began after she gave birth last year and was unable to vote for weeks. But the institutionalist Republican speaker fiercely rejected the effort, forcing Luna to choose the more contentious approach of working with Democrats. https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/06/politics/luna-johnson-agreement-proxy-voting/index.html

Such hypocrisy - members of Congress whining about federal employees who were directed by their agencies to telework 100% because of COVID and now they want their own telework. As if each member of Congress doesn't have enough staffers to help them out with official and unofficial duties like babysitting.

Stop and NO. If a woman wants a job, she needs to do that job as it is suppose to be done. No DEI anymore I thought? It is honorable to chose to bring life in to this world, and most of us all understand the huge responsibility but it still is the path you chose, so walk it. No proxy voting, period. It’s just modified DEI and throwing back open the closing door of fraud. Please bring the adults back into the room. Given their terms are only for two years, and given the time it takes them to start a new term, holidays, and campaigning, and, they receive a full-time salary, they ought to be able to make to the office. That should not be so far into the future that the likelihood of becoming a parent is unforeseeable and what that would entail, and what must be done to fulfill the commitment. The job requires lots of contact with others at all different hours, and short notice meetings. it involves making "hallway" deals. " Tough choices. Of course they think it's a good thing, they get to play with baby and call it in, and pocket full pay.

The talks scheduled for Saturday between Iran and the United States are shaping up as a crucial test of the mad mullahs’ intentions. If they are hell-bent on building nuclear weapons, war is inevitable. It would be war with Israel and probably with America, too. For Iran, that means taking on the Little Satan and the Great Satan simultaneously. That’s what the crazy mullahs always said they wanted. If it hasn’t occurred to them yet, soon they will realize what a colossal mistake they have made.

The North Carolina Supreme Court halted a previous order from the state appeals court requiring the verification of 65,000 questionable ballots. This case has been bouncing around between state and federal courts. Last week the North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled that approximately 65,000 ballots — cast by voters with incomplete registration information, missing photo identification, or submitted by individuals who have never lived in North Carolina — may be invalid under state and federal election law. The 2-1 decision was authored by Judges John Tyson and Fred Gore both registered Republicans.

WASHINGTON — The White House warned Monday that President Trump would veto a bipartisan bill that would mandate congressional approval of all tariffs should it arrive on his desk. Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) said the measure introduced last week by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) “would severely constrain the President’s ability to use authorities long recognized by Congress and upheld by the courts to respond to national emergencies and foreign threats.” The Trade Review Act also “eliminates leverage over foreign trading partners, inhibits reshoring and supply chain resilience, fosters market uncertainty, and introduces procedural micromanagement,” the OMB Statement of Administration Policy added.
