Whither the American Rule of Law after
the Disgraceful Chauvin Show Trial?

I wrote a piece on Ricochet entitled “If You Were Trying To Start A Race War”, which can be accessed here , in which I posed the question: …. would you change a single thing from what the far-left of America is doing now? That piece was published a few days before the jury handed down its verdict —in what has to be record time for a capital case, and with not a single question to the Judge for clarification— of guilty on all three counts, indicating they unanimously believed beyond a reasonable doubt that Officer Chauvin caused George Floyd’s death.

I said it at the time, and will say it again. Chauvin did NOTHING which caused the slightest harm to Floyd. Floyd killed Floyd with a drug overdose which triggered a heart attack. The knee on shoulder (it was NOT on his neck) technique was SPECIFICALLY TAUGHT in the MPD training manual (with a photo, which I have seen) as the safest position of safety for a person struggling and fighting police officers. Chauvin was railroaded and should be OUT of prison and get a couple of million in restitution, even though nothing can full restore him.

Article is from 2021. If you want a deep dive into the feelings of the time in regards to the railroaded trial received by Chauvin, it offers some value.

Well said #1 Chauvin was never going to receive a fair trial in MN, and he didn't. I'd like to see Trump pardon him but I wonder if that would complicate his ability to counter-sue MN, the Floyd family, BLM, Gov. Twinkletoes Walz (he's just so macho!!) and anyone else involved with this RAILROADING of justice.

Re #2, I clicked on "no thanks" and then the page headline popped up...no article. I clicked on the headline and got the article. A bit of fiddling, but you can get to it without a subscription.

A perfect example of a kangaroo court. Pardon him and then let him sue for millions. He deserves every penny an honest jury would award him.

The Art of the Political Tantrum 0 replies

The protests that took place last weekend represent the largest nationwide display of opposition since Trump began his second term. They also represent the mainstreaming of the political tantrum. Donald Trump was elected president by American voters who believed that he was the best choice for America. They believed that the alternative offered by Democrats was the worst choice. Democrats gave us a corrupt left-wing platform headed by a senile old man followed by a woman who appeared to have the brain of a flea. The majority made its choice. If you happened to disagree, you knew that you would have another chance in four years. That’s how the system works.
How Elon Musk Could Fix Medicare 3 replies

Elon Musk’s DOGE has a unique opportunity to standardize Medicare billing and fulfill the promise of nationwide Electronic Medical Records (EMR) health care information–sharing. Better yet, EMRs could become the vehicle Musk needs to root out fraudulent Medicare billing, saving the taxpayers billions and stabilizing Medicare’s future. But first, a basic primer on how Medicare reimburses health care providers is needed. Here it is. American society has entrusted physicians and health care workers (now collectively referred to as “providers”) with a sacred trust, and these providers

Comedian Bill Maher revealed what surprised him most about his much-hullabalooed dinner with President Trump — as he joked that his takeaways may cause “liberal sphincters” to tighten. At the outset of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher” on Friday, the eponymous host delivered a lengthy monologue about his meeting with the commander in chief that left him unexpectedly charmed. “Everything I’ve not liked about him was, I swear to God, absent. At least on this night, with this guy,” Maher, 69, said, appearing somewhat shocked by his own conclusions. Bill Maher has dinner in the White House with President Donald Trump, Kid Rock and Dana White on March 31, 2025.

Greenwich Village isn’t so freewheelin’ anymore. The bohemian Mecca made famous for its anything-goes attitude, counterculture musical scene and clashes with police is begging for law enforcement, a shocking new survey found. The Sixth Precinct Community Council polled 600 neighborhood residents and found 487 of them — 83% — want more cops on the streets. And 74% of Villagers said the Empire State needed stronger prosecution for drug dealing, while 80% thought New York needed stricter bail laws, according to the first-of-its-kind survey, conducted in February and March. “The village is frequently criticized for being liberal — but clearly the numbers here indicate we’re not happy,” said precinct council member Steve Zammarchi.

Senate Republicans continued their campaign Thursday to roll back stringent energy regulations that were issued during the final months of President Joe Biden’s term. The Senate voted 52-42 to repeal a Biden Department of Energy regulation banning some natural gas water heaters by 2029. The resolution now heads to President Donald Trump’s desk for signature. No Republican Senators voted against the repeal. House Republicans, led by Republican Alabama Rep. Gary Palmer, voted to repeal the gas water heater ban in February.

The Supreme Court has issued further guidance in the case of Salvadoran national Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, and while it doesn't fully affirm the district court ruling, it's rather a mixed bag as far as the Trump administration's position on the matter. For background, we'll refer back to Bonchie's initial reporting on the case: Following Judge Xinis' ruling, the administration filed an emergency application for stay with the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, which denied that application. The administration then filed an application with the Supreme Court requesting that the district court's injunction be vacated and seeking an immediate administrative stay. On Monday, Chief Justice John Roberts ordered that stay.

A tony New Jersey city is considering approving a controversial new ordinance that would fine or jail homeless people found sleeping in public spaces. Summit Councilman Jamel Boyer, a Republican, introduced the ordinance last Tuesday, claiming it serves to “preserve the safe and accessible use of public property for all residents, pedestrians and businesses.” The ordinance in Summit would prohibit the homeless from camping in public areas, including parks, sidewalks, alleyways, and benches. If approved, anyone found violating the ordinance would face a fine of up to $2,000 “and/or imprisonment or community service for a term not to exceed ninety days,” the order says. The last thing the Palestinians need are more calls from Qatar-based extremist for terrorism and jihad. If these Muslim "scholars" really want to help their Palestinian brothers, they should be calling on Hamas to release all the Israeli hostages they kidnapped, then to disarm, and then to stop pursuing the disastrous path of terrorism and jihad. The "scholars" leading the IUMS live safely in Qatar, not in the Gaza Strip, and they are therefore not directly affected by the war that Hamas launched. That such a call by an influential Islamic group comes from an organization based in Doha illustrates why Qatar c

The West needs to recognize the intentions of Iran's rulers. The regime has made it clear that it has no plans to abandon its nuclear or ballistic missile programs. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has openly stated that Libya's Muammar Gaddafi made a fatal mistake by giving up his nuclear program. Each time Iran's regime finds itself under pressure, it calls for talks. The goal, however, is never to reach a real agreement. The goal is to delay. Tehran knows that once talks begin, the focus will shift from its nuclear violations to the negotiation process.

China announced countermeasures by raising tariffs on U.S. goods from 84% to 125% starting Saturday. The U.S. and China have escalated a new trade war by raising tariffs even as U.S. President Donald Trump hit a pause on tariffs for other countries. China notably had said it would fight the American tariffs with its own countermeasures, calling Trump’s actions “economic bullying,” which led Trump to retaliate by continuously hiking up tariffs this week. Trump’s universal tariffs on China total 145%. When Trump announced Wednesday that China faced 125% tariffs, he did not include a 20% tariff on China tied to its role in fentanyl production.

This development comes amid several court battles over President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and could be a temporary setback to the administration’s efforts to deport illegal immigrants and asylum seekers. Tehran has played this game before: Agree to talks. Make vague promises. Extract sanctions relief. Then quietly continue nuclear development under the radar. This formula has worked for more than two decades. Right now, the only reason Iran is talking is to stall, to promise just enough to prevent America from striking it -- "We are almost there!" -- to keep its regime and avoid seeing its uranium centrifuges and enrichment sites blasted to rubble. The regime does not want war -- but it also cannot accept total nuclear disarmament.
