Dad of teen accused of fatally stabbing
Texas football star Austin Metcalf says
son ‘was not the aggressor’

The father of a Texas teen accused of fatally stabbing a football star from a rival school over a seat at the stadium says his son is a “good kid” who was provoked to violence. “Everyone has already made their assumptions about my son, but he’s not what they’re making him out to be,” Andrew Anthony told The Post. Karmelo Anthony, 17, was arrested Wednesday for allegedly killing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet, leaving him to die in his twin brother’s arms. “He’s a good kid. He works two jobs. He’s an A student, has a 3.7 GPA,” the heartbroken dad said.

FTA: The grieving father questioned Karmelo’s upbringing and parents as he forgave his son’s alleged killer. “I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. The guy was in the wrong place and they asked him to move and he bowed up [became angry and aggressive]. This is murder,” Jeff Metcalf said. Karmelo obviously had a gangster upbringing from a gangster father who never learned right from wrong, and taught his son evil. That foolishness leads to death. Too bad legal justice can't be instant. This wanton murderer ought not live out the week. And he should never get out of prison.

All it would have taken to defuse the situation was one of them to be MAN ENOUGH to find another seat. Nope. Can't do that. Now one of them is dead over little or no provocation. They were both fools in my book (I would use a more accurate word but don't want to be banned). Let that be a lesson folks. There are people out there that aren't nice. They will kill you over nothing. Most of the time one walks by them and nothing happens, but unfortunately, sometimes someone ends up dead. it just takes a provocation, real or imagined.

One wonders if Karmalo even knew his father and if his father was part of Karmelo's life. Great kid, sang in the church choir, straight A student, worked two jobs help little old ladies across the street sounds more like a prequel to a large lawsuit. Or more like a dead beat dad sees an opportunity for a nice fat cash settlement knowing that grades will not be admissible and the two jobs were gang informant and dealer. One just wonders. Of course we don't have all the facts and it may be possible what this dad says is true. But killing another human over a high school track meet seat will take some clever justifying. We'll see where the facts lead.

No doubt Karmelo Anthony’s severe overreaction during the course of what should have been a minor incident was a culturally based overreaction, that Karmelo Anthony was ready to perpetrate at the drop of a hat, that’s why Karmelo Anthony had armed himself with such a knife while he attended a high school sporting event.

Converting a high school disagreement into a knife murder, where the other person had no weapon and both were young fit males, it's clear who the murderer is. Now if my mid70s wife, just over five feet tall is attacked by a vilent 18 year old male, it will be valid self defense for her to use her handgun because of what is known as "disparity of force". But two late teen boys? Nope, any altercation there is, less weapons, a" fair fight", and pulling a knife is not any kind of legit self defense.

Re #21, apparently, with many schools from all over the state, certain zones of the stands were assigned to certain schools. Not per seat, but 'this zone for ABC School'. And there was apparently some mixup about which zone one or the other was in. But going to deadly force for a minor social friction like this is sign of a hair trigger violent sociopath. This guy needs to spend the rest of his life behind bars, because he WILL do it again.

Most of our kids can't read. And it's a big problem. This year's "Nation's Report Card" showed something alarming: 69% of our 4th graders cannot read proficiently; for 8th graders, that number rises to 70%. That's not just a school problem. It's a future problem—for our kids, economy, and public safety. National surveys show that parents have been in the dark about this crisis and didn’t know how much they didn’t know. In Texas, one group is seeing the same issues up close. According to state test scores in Fort Worth, with more than 170,000 students, only 43% are reading at grade level.
