Four GOP senators vote with Democrats
to undo Trump tariffs on Canada

A group of Republican senators voted along with Democrats on Wednesday for a resolution to undo President Trump’s 25 percent tariffs on Canadian imports, dealing an embarrassing blow to Trump. The resolution expresses the sense of the Senate and doesn’t have the force of law, but its 51-48 passage is unwelcome news for the president on the very day he announced a host of new tariffs. Four Republicans — Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.), Susan Collins (Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Mitch McConnell (Ky.) — voted for the measure. They voted to express their disapproval of Trump’s tariffs on Canada

"The resolution expresses the sense of the Senate and doesn’t have the force of law" in order to have "Force of Law, or even the force of "Tradition" it will have to garner 60+ votes, in the same timeframe, same day, both Canada and Mexico blinked and offered to drop ALL Tariffs, several other countries in other parts of the world have as well....These idjits cannot see that Trump's "Negotiating" approach is a yuuuuuge win already, and they are loudly proving they are losers.

It's a resolution. It's pure virtue signaling and has no force to change the tarries. I'm generally opposed to tariffs, but willing to go along with Trump. If they work, great. If not, he can roll them back with a stroke of the pen.

FRANKFURT, Germany U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping new tariffs on American imports shocked governments and investors around the world, swiftly spurring both threats of retaliation and calls for negotiation as industries scrambled and global stocks tumbled. China accused the U.S. of “bullying” and the European Union said it was ready to mount “robust” countermeasures, with French officials suggesting taxes to hit U.S. tech giants. Yet others, like the United Kingdom and Japan, expressed hope for a deal with Trump and refrained from talk of retaliation against the world’s biggest economy, fearing that slapping their own tariffs on American goods will only make things worse.
How the Trump Administration Calculated
the New Reciprocal Tariffs

The Trump administration on Wednesday released its long-awaited formula for calculating the new reciprocal tariffs unveiled in the Rose Garden, offering a clearer picture of how the United States intends to address persistent trade imbalances. According to a statement from the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR), the tariffs are calculated using a straightforward formula based on each country’s goods trade surplus with the United States. Specifically, the method divides a country’s trade surplus by its total exports to the U.S., then applies a 50 percent discount to the resulting percentage. For example, China exported $438 billion in goods

The S&P 500 was down 4% in morning trading, worse than the drops for other major stock markets. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 1,520 points, or 3.6%, as of 10:10 a.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 4.0% lower. Little was spared as fear flared globally about the potentially toxic mix of higher inflation and weakening economic growth that tariffs can create. Everything from crude oil

LOS ANGELES, California — Consumers in Los Angeles County were shocked Tuesday as a new quarter-percent sales tax, ostensibly to raise funds for services for the homeless, went into effect following a referendum in November. L.A. voters passed Measure A, which replaced and increased an earlier county-wide sales tax for the homeless. That tax, passed a decade ago, failed to stem the growth of the homeless population and may even have encouraged it. As Breitbart News reported in November: The UK Sun noted the effect of the tax on consumers’ pocketbooks: The sales tax went up from 9.5% to 9.75% to increase funding to prevent homelessness.

President Donald Trump announced at a White House event on Wednesday that he is imposing a baseline 10 percent levy on all imports and reciprocal tariffs on the “worst offender” countries that tariff U.S. goods at a higher rate. For every tariff another country has imposed on the U.S., the administration will slap what he called a “discounted reciprocal tariff” that amounts to half that country’s rate on American exports. “Because we are being very kind,” Trump said during his announcement in the Rose Garden, “we will charge them approximately half of what they are — and have been — charging us.”

A Manhattan judge on Wednesday dismissed the federal corruption charges levied against New York City Mayor Eric Adams last fall, partially granting the Trump-era Department of Justice’s request to drop the case. U.S. District Judge Dale Ho, who presided over the Democratic mayor’s case in the Southern District of New York, permanently dismissed the charges in a highly anticipated decision. In February, the DOJ ordered federal prosecutors to stop pursuing the case and subsequently asked the judge to dismiss the case without prejudice. That would have allowed prosecutors to refile charges against Adams in the future if the DOJ wanted to do so.
