A Greenlandic tourism business which was due to host Usha Vance has canceled the trip amid the Trump administration's 'underlying agenda' for the visit. [Snip] It was initially billed as a family-friendly holiday with Usha and one of her children... Then it emerged that she would be joined by embattled National Security advisor Mike Waltz, sparking fury among the nation's leaders--including the prime minister. But the final straw came when Usha's husband, Vice President JD Vance revealed he, too, would join her on the trip... [Snip] 'After closer consideration, however, we have now informed the consulate that we do not want her visit,' the store said.

I'm sure Greenland will be singing another song when the CCCP navy comes calling.
In the meantime, bless their little hearts.

The EU, Denmark and Greenland can act tough and independent all they want.. until the Russians/Chinese/Islamics come calling! They will be kissing our butts shortly afterwards! We need to halt any and all foreign aid until their attitude improves! This especially includes Canada!

Smells like a Susan Rice/USAID "let's start a color revolution" production.

Weird how it's only ever conservatives and other normal people who are controversial or embattled or whatever.
Violent law breaking far left extremists are never called words like that in the press.

What's wrong with Greenland? Visitors from the USA are not welcome? OK, see you around...

As I asked on another website about Greenland, what's wrong with these people in Greenland? I said it was a state visit by the U.S. Vice President and his wife. Not some invasion force coming to take over the country. The idiot Prime Minister called it an aggressive visit. What is an aggressive visit? Hamas invading Israel was an aggressive visit. Germany invading Poland was aggressive visit. The VP and his wife visiting isn't aggressive visit.

What started out to be a nice visit by a Lady and her son turned out to be a disaster. Now if the Secret Service decided that a visit by her alone would be unsafe and canceled the visit there wouldn't have been so much bad press. A few bland excuses would have sufficed. No, the Admin decided to include bot the NSA and VP to the mix. Blunt diplomacy just doesn't work. Now we have generated real animosity from the Greenlanders when it wasn't necessary. Hope they learned a lesson. Now the work to include Greenland in our security envelope just got infinitely harder.

The Greenlanders aren't used to a team of SS guys showing up wearing dark suits and dark sunglasses and with very expensive blue tooth devices jammed into their ears. All things take time.

Greenland is desirable to the US for strategic military and defense reasons. Greenland is mostly a barren icehole. I had a friend stationed at Thule when he was in the Air Force. Maybe things have changed but I don't consider it exactly a vacation spot.

I guess I'm going to be the lone wolf here. I understand how Greenlanders must feel. I understand that Trump is looking at this, rightly, as a National security issue. However, wouldn't it have been better to present it as a mutually beneficial proposition rather than 'we want to take over your country'? Greenland is not our enemy. Sometimes being a bull in a China shop isn't the best approach and sending a National security official and the VP before a deal is made probably feels threatening. VP Vance probably decided to go because he was concerned about how his wife and child would be treated. Usha is so lovely and relatively new to the political world, but it might have been better if she went alone (with security of course).

Denmark has already substantially increased its spending on Greenland's defense so things are moving in the right direction in spite of the noise.

Clearly Greenland politicians have got out over their skis by being nasty to the USA Vice-President and his spouse and child. They should have been taking into consideration the common sense given by poster #1 regarding what could happen in the future.

d say...let him stew in his self made porridge....it ain't over...till President Trump says it's over.....and honey...it's ain't over for a long time....so beat your chest...prime minister ...maybe Denmark will sell you to china or Russia.....

The Louisiana Purchase, Alaska, Hawaii, all were opposed and derided by the Smart Set. And here we are, infinitely better for these acquisitions. Add Greenland to the list. Whether it comes in as a COFA country, or a territory, doesn’t really matter. MAGA Greenland!

according to my theory, what the administration mainly wants to do is keep Greenland in the headlines, for their own safety, which is indeed the outcome. i Love Usha.

Greenland, no vacation hot spot, has been tolerant and facilitative of an American military presence on their island, including bombers and missiles armed with nuclear weapons, throughout my entire lifetime, as I was born an Air Force brat back when Eisenhower was president and the Cold War was escalating. We were stationed at the USAF SAC base at Goose Bay, Labrador, which is around 1,000 miles SW of Greenland. My father did numerous TDYs to Thule, Greenland and thought the islanders were friendly and helpful. It doesn't seem prudent to strong-arm that which was provided willingly to the U.S., as a friendly nation who shared security concerns with Greenland/Denmark.
