Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called a snap federal election on April 28, claiming he needs a strong mandate to address President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
Speaking in Ottawa on Sunday, Carney said the elections, which are not due until Oct. 20, should be pushed up in the face of the Trump administration. (Photo) “We are facing the most significant crisis of our lifetimes because of President Trump’s unjustified trade actions and his threats to our sovereignty,” Carney said.
“He wants to break us so America will own us. We will not let that happen,” he added.

So the Liberals in Canada are going to run against Donald Trump in their attempt to retain power? Not on how they will improve their own country and lives of their citizens after years of oppressing them and their freedoms?
Popcorn is popping. Will the Canadian citizenry fall for it?

What an idiot. Trump has no problem with everyday Canadiens, just their uber-liberal gvt. And exactly what is fair about having a 100 billion dollar trade deficit? I'm quite positive that Trumps speaks of Canada as the 51st state just to prod & troll the Canadian gvt to lower their tariffs and secure their border with us. If they did that there'd be no issues.

From the article:
"“We are facing the most significant crisis of our lifetimes because of President Trump’s unjustified trade actions and his threats to our sovereignty,” Carney said.
The sky is falling and everyone's hair is on fire.

In the overall balance sheet of America's world wide defense and foreign involvements, Canada is a rounding error. We don't want them as the 51st State, they need to pay their fare share. There should be zero tariffs between us, but former Administrations gave them and the rest of the World a pass. President Trump started making things more balanced during his first term. President Trump knows how to get them talking. To be honest, dropping President Trump on them, while they are trying to get rid of Trudeau and the Liberals was almost unfair. It will work out in the end. Canada is and always will be our quiet, unassuming, liberal relatives living in the Great White North. We do love you, but you need to get in line...

They can vote to fight Trump if they want to, but they had better prepare to lose and destroy their economy.

The only "crisis" these leftist punks will experience - - is when Pierre Poilievre gets elected PM.
How do you like that crisis - - eh?

Wouldn't it just be easier to both not impose tariffs on American products AND make some drug busts?

If Trump teasing you about Canada becoming a U.S. State, and charging you reciprocal tariffs is the most significant crisis of your lifetime, you Canadians must lead a rather idyllic life!

What a weak defense of a weak argument.
When Canada can come up with an argument that equality is unfair it should make it.
Tariffs, equally applied, would benefit both countries by encourage citizens to patronize their respective industries without preventing trade for the things needed from abroad.
Canadians, and Americans who have not looked very far back into history, might benefit from a little research.

#5, What's that piece of Canada you have to drive through to get to Alaska, if you don't feel like driving all the way over to the Pacific Coast? Do you know what a pain it is to try to get your legally-registered weapon from the US (south) to the US (north), if driving?
Maybe we just make THAT the 51st state? (And tell Puerto Rico to get off the fence about growing up from a territory.)

He wants to break you free of your dependency on us, and the huge subsidy you get every year. Otherwise, we might as well own you.

Pierre should continue to run on the high taxes and regulation that Carney and Trudeau and the libs have anchored the Canadian people.
And he's going to be a tough negotiator with Trump as well. That 51st state stuff is a negotiating tactic.

Trump is playing 3D chess while Carney is playing checkers. Trump threw Carney under the bus by proclaiming he'd rather deal with Canada's Liberals because they're easier to push around. (He also said that "the other guy" said nasty things about him, and that should be music to Liberal Canadians that they should vote for Poilievre.) That may well cause urban Liberals -- usually a reliable bloc -- to split their vote for the Conservatives (and Poilievre) instead.
Reality is this: A vote for Carney is a vote for the dissolution of the Dominion. A vote for Poilievre is a vote that will maintain Canada as a whole and sovereign nation. Will the urban Liberals take the bait and turn against Carney? We shall see...

Anti-American feeling is running high in Canada, it seems. That favors the Liberals, so I can't blame the PM for calling elections now instead of October, Trump's make-Canada-a-state rhetoric has needlessly stirred the anti-American feeling in Canada. (I voted for Trump, but that does not mean I won't criticize him, especially for excesses like this.)
