LOS ANGELES, California — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has received 270,000 applications from purported homeowners in the recent L.A. fires — though only abut 13,000 homes were destroyed.
A FEMA official gave the staggering figure — more than twenty times the number of eligible applicants — as concerns about fraudulent applications continue to plague the agency, more than two months after the fire. As Breitbart News has reported, many displaced residents had tried applying for FEMA relief, only to find that someone else had already applied in their name and with their address, locking them out of the system.

Tell ALL of them that their request is approved, but you must come in person to pick up your check.
Then arrest 257,000 of them.

We had 14-ft of muddy salt water in the yard during hurricane Katrina. I applied for, and received a rebuilding grant. The process was pretty thorough.... I had had evacuated with all my important household papers.... deed, birth certificate, tax records, etc., ..... and I needed them to qualify for the grant.
Those FILTH that are trying to scam the system......"Book 'em, Danno!"

We had to sign up with FEMA after Hurricane Charley in August 2004, no benefits since we had insurance. I heard at the time that there were many signed up from Miami. Hurricane was no where near Miami. That's just what they do. And until now, probably got by with it. Love you, Elon!

I forget which city that this event occurred, but it seems an empty bus except for the driver was involved in a minor traffic accident. When the cops got there, the bus was full of people claiming sore necks and other "injuries". Shame and honesty are unknown to certain demographics.

While I believe that there will be MASSIVE fraud (gotta get the money while the gettin's good) the article states that 12,000 home were destroyed. What about homes just damaged, shed burned, detatched garage burnt, or simpy smoke damage? There are going to be a lot of those above the 12,000 that were destroyed.

How about we get the federal government completely out of the rebuilding/recovery business after a natural disaster? Everyone here agrees that anything the federal government touched is corrupted or will be corrupted. If DOGE and the Trump Administration are really serious and they have been with shutting down useless small agencies then shut down FEMA.

When money is being passed out, people come out of the woodwork. It's not unlike when a wealthy person passes away and hoards of people show up to make claims against the estate.

The answer is simple. Democrats learned to count in Leftist Screwels and all they can count is STOLEN MONEY and Criminal Activity. Any Questions?

I like poster #1's idea...approve them all and then tell them they must pick up the check in person with a driver's license showing their address....that should keep the crooks out of the game...I mean real crooks...not the corrupt politicians in California....like Newscum...who is so busy with his self serving pod/cast that the worries of the little people in California is not his worry...his makeup and allocution lessons are more important....

Nothing that goes on in that left wing hell hole that surprises me. No wonder they want to get rid of the current administration. Things are getting a bit hot, figuratively, for them.
