A record number of Americans are working multiple jobs, with side hustles becoming a financial lifeline in an economy where wages struggle to keep pace with inflation. According to a recent survey, over a third of U.S. adults now earn extra income through gigs such as freelancing or weekend shifts.
With the cost of living continuing to rise—particularly for parents and carers—it is hardly surprising that so many are turning to second jobs to stay afloat.

My father worked in a factory from 7-3:30 every day and from 4:30-10pm in a gas station 5 days a week for 17 years and worked at least one Saturday a month. I'm 70 and worked all through high school and 3 jobs at the same time in my Senior Year. After serving in the Army for 3 years, I went to college on the GI bill and worked 2 jobs totaling at least 45 hours a week. I bought my first house at age 23 when interest rates were over 10% on a mortgage. Working more that 40 hours a week is how lower class people move into the middle class.

Unless one goes to college, without a significant debt load (it is doable) and gets a degree which is actually in demand in the work force, not like so many worthless degrees today, it's always been difficult to get ahead. If you want to get ahead, and don't have a job that pays well, usually from a useful degree, then you need multiple part time jobs to get financially stable.
Of course, many choose to get on welfare and kick back instead, dooming them to 'the cycle of poverty', which is actually 'the cycle of laziness'.

I started working in fourth grade. Had a newspaper route with ten customers.
Little did I know I would still be delivering newspapers in college. Only difference was I had almost 200 customers. Paid for private grade school, high school, and two years of college. I remember getting $500 in Christmas tips during high school and thinking I got more than any of my classmates.
Parents were dirt poor. If I wanted anything I had to earn it myself. It was a valuable lesson.
Did 5 years of college over an 8 year period. Dropped out for a few years and worked while figuring out what I was doing wrong at college. High school never prepared me. Parents never had any college education. Heck, dad never completed high school before going to work. I was on my own regarding college. Went back and graduated. Worked three part time jobs. Yep, one was a newspaper route. After graduating, I got a full-time job. Overtime was expected. Joke was we worked half days meaning twelve hour days. Not unusual to work six or seven days a week. Always saved my money (learned that from childhood too). Easy to do if not married and no children. Retired at age 50. Careful with spending. So far, inflation not a factor.
That's the way things work folks.

I grew up in the 50's. My pop worked his @ss off while Mom stayed home and raised five children. Many years later, I happened to ask why people, including Mom's, were now working two or more jobs? "To pay their taxes." Smart man. He was once asked what the meaning of life was. "To propagate the species." Smart man. Now you know why President Trump is so set on Tariffs. So you can be at home to raise your children again.

One of the HairSniffer's minions statistical tricks was to count every part-time worker -no matter how few the hours per week- as 'employed'. As part of this, they would take a person who lost a full-time job and now had two part-time jobs and count it as an 'employment gain' of one, as if the person had not lost their full-time job, and a different person had also gained a full-time job.
Corrupt the process, fake the numbers, cook the books, and Presto!.... month after month of 'unemployment' in the 4-percent range, which in normal times is considered 'full employment', and a desirable state of affairs.
LIARS!

This is not a bad thing. Having the option to improve one's standing is a good thing. Europeans think we are crazy for not taking the summer off like they do. Of course our annual earnings are almost double that of UK. When Europeans visit they are often shocked at the size of ours houses and cars which are larger because we don't like living in tiny homes all squeezed together. Never forget Democrats are always trying to force us into these conditions which is one reason they didn't win on Nov.

I praise those working extra for their families at the same time I condemn those that won't work even one job for theirs.
